Default Surge 400 motor

Hi all,
I just purchased a Goldberg Surge 400 ARF to mess around with. This is an older model that suggests the use of:
1) Castle Creations 25A speed controller
2)UltraFly Brushless A/30/29 with 3.89 ratio gearbox
3) 9X4.7 slow fly prop
4) 3 cell 1500 MAH LiPO

My question is I would like to replace the inrunner/gearbox combo with an out runner as gearboxes just seam to wear out (either through re-kitting :-) or just the environment I fly in (very sandy soil) and the noise while not bad, is a factor to a certain extent. The a/c uses a stick mount very similar to GWS a/c. There is enough room for a 30-30 or 30-36. AUW is 21.5 oz including the suggested battery. I would like to be able to use it as an intro to 3-D, or at least some advanced acro. What are the suggestions for power set-up to allow for this? Can this be done, or am I stuck with the gearbox?
Thank you a to everyone on here, I would have NEVER had as much fun as I am having without all of your help and support (and suggestions for the best glue :-P )
Rick
