RE: E Z Arf Models
I flew my Dallas Doll twice last month after a long lay off. It was assembled and flown twice in 1987!
It was given to me with an old Airtronics system and an Enya 90 4S in '08. Old school all the way. I replaced the radio and engine with an OS 61 FSR with a 7M carb and an Airtronics 2.4 receiver on my SD10 and found out why these models are still talked about and sought after.
It looks great (though the scheme is darn near invisible in flight) with the gear up, is fast and solid, easy to land (fast approach) and when I install a retractable tailwheel it'll be just right.
I found out those strip ailerons only need to move about half of what I started with (now about a 1/16th!) and after some travel volume and expo work it flew pretty nicely. The song of that old Pattern engine on an old EZ model coming out of a big ole' loop is why I like this model, it brings back memories.
I'm painting the big yellow spinner up with the black stripes the real one had, as well as the rudder and wing and tail tips yellow so I can see the thing a little better. Now that I'm getting comfortable with it I'll be doing a lot of vertical maneuvers to keep in in close!
Pics later, sorry I'm on an airplane and don't have any downloaded.
