Default RE: Anyone using Phoenix Rc Flight Simulator?

I got it to work on Windows 7 in Virtualbox on the Macbook Pro 13" running its normal OSX (Snow Leopard). Not as effortless as on Windows running natively and not with the rendering quality of a dedicated NVidia or Geforce card.

But fully usable and not jerky. The simulation does not suffer, just some of the rendering isn´t as smooth.

Some trickery getting the mandatory USB dongle to interface in Virtualbox, I was able to use my Futaba 6EX transmitter as control device same as on the PC.
Normally I run Phoenix on a laptop (ASUS UL50VT)with NVidia graphics. But this is fully ok if I would happen to bring only the Mac somewhere.

Yes in the long run Phoenix saves a LOT of money for a beginner RC pilot in avoiding mistakes that would crash your first models quicker than otherwise.
I´m not into that crazy heli 3D stuff, merely a novice learning how to handle glow engine planes without crashing.
Funny thing I think it´s easier in Phoenix to fly the performance models than the underpowered trainers so I think I will lean towards 3D glow planes once I get on with real flying.

Virtualbox hints:

You need to install the Virtualbox Guest Additions for OSX (comes with the Virtualbox install) while running Windows 7 in Safe Mode. Use msconfig to specify Win7 to boot in safe mode then set it back to normal boot once done. Make sure to install the Direct X stuff offered during install.

It is possible to configure Virtualbox to render Windows 7 in fullscreen on the Macbook and thus Phoenix can be configured to run fullscreen as well.
(on WIndows 7-> In VirtualBox -> On OSX -> On the mac).

For running on a Mac you need:
The mac running OSX.
A copy of Virtualbox (free)
A Windows 7 install disc and your key for it.
A copy of Phoenix RC (licensed SW) with its copy protect USB cable.
A dummy transmitter or the real thing. There is support in Phoenix for hooking uo for example the Futaba 6EX (that I use) using
a small simulator adapter cable from your RC dealer. That cable connects to the square instructor link socket at the back of the Futaba tx.

Install Virtualbox.
Set up a "USB filter" for the Phoenx cable in Virtualbox.
Then install Windows 7 as guest operating system in Virtualbox
Select phoenix cable as USB cable in Virtualbox while running Windows 7.
Then install Phoenix on Windows 7 running in Virtualbox.
