As many of you know the Seventh Hotlanta Senior Pattern Championship http://www.seniorpattern.com/ is being held this weekend. It’s hosted by the Paulding County Model Aviation (P.C.M.A http://www.pcmaviation.com ) club that has their flying field located in Dallas, Georgia. Dallas is located northwest of Atlanta.
The SPA is the brain child of Mickey Walker (image 1) and is truly an outstanding pattern organization. The event contest director is John Baxter (image 2). There are a lot of great aircraft and super pilots in attendance. The weather is perfect and everyone looks like they are having a fantastic time.

Daddy -o- all the pictures of "Hot Lanta"looks great!; a very nice variety of S.P.A. legal pattern ships;(what an inspiration) maybe next year for me... the S.P.A. legal pattern ship thats flight ready for me, has just recieved one coat too many of paint over the last 18 years that I've been boring holes in the sky with.. so I will quit procrastinating and build the pattern ship same design from the plans that Steve Byrum was able to copy for me,a while back.---thanks again---So keep at it Senior Pattern Association flyer's and I will get a decent: read LIGHTER,S.P.A. ship ready for next season

It was a GREAT contest, but hotter than H--L on Saturday. In fact, I was judging Sportsman, the largest class, during the last round on Saturday, and by the time we were thru, I looked around, and everyone was gone! Everyone had headed back to the hotel for air conditioning and a cool shower. Sunday was much cooler.
After having been out of the hobby for 30 years until last year, SPA reminds me of the "old days" of pattern; competitive, but laid back. Great bunch of people!
