It was mentioned in the Fun Fly forum that Webra has come out with a new Speed 55 GT engine. Does anyone have any information on this engine. When was it released? I called Chief and Horizon and neither had any info on it. Is there a way to get one shipped to the US at a reasonable price?

This is from Webra's own web site - [link=http://www.webra-austria.at/motor.php?search=1026GT&folder=AERO&lang=EN]The .55 GT page[/link].
The numbers are only slightly different from Dragon's.

Hi Dar,
I only converted those Metric figures on the Webra site to Imperial. Having been eductaed (?) in England during the '70s & '80s I am bi-lingual... sort of... when it comes to dimensional units.
Spooky that you should post now ... I have just printed out your 17 page thread - "Tapered Bore Engine Break In" - as I have a Webra 50 & an MVVS 49 that both need running-in and I want to try and do it properly. Thanks for the info btw [sm=thumbup.gif]

Hi Steve,
It is even more complicated, since there are three different weight definitions of 'pound'.
The Metric Pound is no longer supported, but the normal Imperial pound (Avoirdupois) and Troy still are...
It is good that a kilogram is just a kilogram...

There was a news report a while ago that the "standard kilogram" (a platinum bar held by France) is believed by some scientists not to actually weigh a kilogram! Apparently most countries have "copies" of this bar to be used as a reference - and they are all wrong as well.
So we can all blame the French for getting it wrong yet again

Dar is KING of tapered-bore break-in..... I still need to buy an MVVS-49 one of these days*
That weight must be without muffler right? I know Webra's are light but wow!
All this engine talk is making me hungry, guess I'll shoot to town and get a Burger and some FREEDOM fries

Hi Razor,
Well I just weighed my Webra 50 to compare to the spec on the Webra site and to see if it includes - or not - the muffler. Hmm, my motor weighs more than specified [sm=confused.gif] so I don't know what to tell you. For sure that weight Webra give is without muffler and probably without the carb aswell!
FWIW my 50 weighs 12&3/8oz without and 16&1/8oz with muffler.
HTH,
Steve

I know it is not yet the end of April, but I thought someone might have an update. Does anyone know if the 55 will be available in the US. I got an email from Webra about a month ago that said the Canadian distributor was going to carry them, but they did not know if the US distributor would.

The Webra 55GT is now available from the Canadian Distributor who also supplies a few American hobby shops. The 55GT is not cheap because the American dollar is worth a lot less against the Euro dollar than it used to be. The selling price for the 55GT with muffler is $210.00.

I like the new black head on the 55. The 50 looked kind of rough and unfinished for a high end engine. The 55 weighs in at 360g, exactly the same as the 40.
I see my Aero 35, ringed engine, has been discontinued, as has the 32 in favor of the 36.

I bit the bullet and ordered a 55 from Paul. It is an expensive engine, but I have high hopes for it. I saved a few bucks by getting it without a muffler. The 55 uses the same muffler as the 50, and I have a spare one. Not sure which plane it is going on. I have a couple of profiles that are without engines.
I'm tempted to put it on my Burrito since I have another one with a Webra 50 on it. Comparing the two might be interesting, but the 50 is more than enough engine for the Burrito. My beat up EF Edge might be more of a challenge for the 55. It has put on a few extra ounces from being patched together a couple of times.

Way to go Eric!
So Paul has them now. I wonder if Horizon will be following suit. Please keep us posted on the progress. This will be a "must have" engine for me in the future.
Does it have the black head? And about how much did you have to give for it?
Thanks!

hello
can't wait until you run it so we can compare it to the 50. How much did you save by buying without muffler. I don't like the Webra mufflers anyway they are too loud and heavy, i run a moussecan on my 50.

The price without muffler was $172.55, plus shipping. I did my darnedest to beat Paul's price.
I checked with dealers in Europe and Taiwan, but Paul could not be beat. Despite it being carried by Swift, I could not find an online dealer in Canada. If it turns out to be a winner, maybe it will get picked up in the US. I don't know if that will result in a lower price. It seems that Webra thinks a lot of this engine. The exchange rate is not helping.

the engine looks pretty good. I am just wondering what muffler you are going to run on it. Is that a different carb that what the speed 50 uses?

This is my P5 .91 on the right, also bought from Paul, the muffler is rather large but high quality and not loud, the large volume most likely due to the way it is supposed to be run, turning large props in the 8,000 rpm range. It turns an APC 14x12 at 8,300 and does not strain doing it on 5% nitro. Eric, is the .55 supposed to turn large props or rev?
