How far is too far? Radio range question
I am installing a video downlink system I through together out of video / audio senders and parts from a wireless network (2.4 GHz).
We range tested it the other day (on the ground) and had a signal at 1.5 miles. I quit driving away from the receiver at this point because I figured I had more than enough.
Anyway, What is everyone getting for radio range? I have been flying many years and never worried about the range, even with quarter scale, but this worries me!
The plane is using a Futaba Super 7 with a PCM receiver, full-length stock antenna.
I did a search for “RC radio range” and just came up with the normal 1-3 mile estimates.
I know range can very a lot, but what range do you feel safe flying at?
Thanks in advance!
Jim

How far is too far? Radio range question
Normally the RC range is not so critical, as you loose sight/orientation long before you run out of range..
So not really sure how to answer your question. One thing you should watch for is interaction between your downlink and your RC equip. I lost one plane to it, and I still have not solved it. Not sure if it is from harmonics or the switching PS..

How far is too far? Radio range question
Thanks davidhnsocal,
I was just curious what everyone feels a safe range is for a stock radio flying through video.
I thought maybe everyone came to an agreement in a previous thread or place I had not seen.
I plan on hooking a parachute to a failsafe channel on my PCM system, just incases.
