Default Sharp Outboard Leading Edge

I've got D&L designs Gizmo Kit that I'm putting together and would like some opinions. It's a high wing constant cord Fun Fly kinda design.

The plans show different leading edge shapes.

W-1 being inboard, W-9 outboard tip rib. The plans reference Extreme Aerobatic L.E. Shape on the outboard wing ribs.

Am I wrong thinking it should be the opposite? "Sharp Leading Edge Inboard"???

Yes you are....BUT on a high wing fun fly plane with the section shown, it won't make a hill of beans difference. Wing section is too thick

Just a design gimmick? .... I've never seen this "option" before on anything else I've built.

I'm about to the point where I need to decide on the shape. The model is pretty much framed up.

You think I should just round it like the "Trainer" shape. (might not ding as easy...)

I picked this model because the wings come off in two sections and I can stash it in a smaller space.

Just round it as evenly as possible so each panel is the same - that means more than anything else.
If you compare panels, they should be EXACT mirror images
Much of the info on designs is whimsy- but getting th two panels such that drag/lift is equal means the most.

They are giving you 3 options for your build...

1 is a constant profile for 1-9 for "sport flying" it is semi pointed

3 is a constant profile 1-9 for "Trainer" that is nicely rounded

2 is for EXTREMEAEROBATICS LE... 7-9 being sharp... (IE LOWERINGthe Critical angle of the wing at the TIPS)

The Key words here are "EXTREMEAEROBATICLEADINGEDGE"

Normally you build washout into a wing to prevent tip stalling.. (but that also reduces the propensity to flick roll)

The sharp leading edge on the outer part of the wing will INCREASE the ease with which it "Flick Rolls" increasing theaircraft's ability for "extreme aerobatics"

you can choose which option you want... Sport flying, trainer or EXTREME Aerobatics, the plans are correct and make perfect sense.

But it may also be a typo and the W7 should be a W1.... Just a thought..

I think I'll go with "round it as evenly as possible so each panel is the same"...

I'd hate to "Flick Roll" it three feet off the runway...

I've learned to roll up a Tall Kitchen Size trash bag and tape it inside all my models anyway. Saves me a trip back to the truck...[sm=thumbup.gif]

Thanks Guys

I agree, the option is to make it more unstable, although I doubt you would be able to see the difference in real life. The wing is just to fat.

It will look best slighly rounded and fly absolutely fine.

Broken Wings, don't forget that the national record for touch & goes in a minute is something like 50.
Rigging the plane as lightly as possible will make it fly better than any gimmicks.
