does anyone know if i can use the wing ribs from a CAP 232 kit to build into a 540 edge wing design?, Ive got all the wing ribs ready to put together and thought i could just bring all the leading edges of each wing rib up till the leading edges of each rib where lined up strait just as the 540 edge ribs are, will the airfoil shapes still provide a good flying wing this way or will i be creating some kind of aerodynamic problems. I'm also wanting to remove all the normal dihedral that is normally in a CAP 232 wing ....

Supertigre,
For swome reason I haven't found anyone who wants to answer my questions that are similar to that. Anyway, I was thinking the same thing. I heard that the Cap 232 wing has basically been borrowed from an Extra... which is not all that different from an Edge.
I plan to build a set of Giles 202 wings for my Extra. Don't think many people will know the difference.
Only thing I wanna ask is... do you plan to use the edge wing design on the CAP fuse???

There shouldn't be any problem doing that.
The c.g. will be more forward, with the zero leading edge sweep of the Edge wing configuration.
Anyway, it's a model, and models are waaaaay tolerant of things aerodynamic, good and bad.

From: Laurel, MD,
Yeah, you can do it, no problem from an aerodynamic view point.
Your biggest issue is likely to be the wing spars. Chances are you won't have any problems getting the ribs on the spar at the slight angle you'll need, but when you join the wing halves the spars are going to sweep forward just a bit. I don't know what that kit uses for the spar joint, but if it's a typical bit of plywood, you'll have some issues to work out.
I've done those kinds of modifications on foam wings in the past, just sanding the root before joining to adjust the sweep angle. For the most part, it doesn't change the performance in the air. I was doing it to move the wing's ideal CG to a location that would match what the fuse would cause the CG to be. If that makes sense.

Deanoo, I'm planning to replace the wing on the Funtana 40 , the wing it comes with has some very bad flight problems in my opinion, but I'm really just experimenting i don't have to damage or even alter the fuse of the Funtana to try a new wing design. if i cant find a wing to make me happy with this plane then i will probably just hang it on the sealing of my Hobie room and forget about it. I'm used to flying extremely precise planes and the Funtana doesn't even fly as good as most funflys.

SUPERTIGER!! Cool... let us know how it turns out... I for one am very interested.
KIRK!! Ha ha ha, thats a great idea!! Forget balast, just re design the wing. Have you tried vacuum bagging your foam cores instead of sheeting them with balsa??
