Iwas launching a slope ship on a catapult to the south. There was a W or WSW wind. Before release I bank hard to the left and yanked up elevator. Then it seemed to pick up speed while also being in a climb to the East. The launch resulted in good height. Is this DS or just turning against wind?

sorry bro... turning against the wind after winch launch....ds is a sideways loop into dead air then back up the down wind side to lift then yankin elev back down sideways.... but its a good way to practice..but instead of goin left ,come back at you....did it for a couple of years in maui...Joe Wurts came down and showed us how....

The defintion of ds is simply pushing against the atmosphere to make it lose energy. Taras Kineciuk
So the real defintion has no stricr guidelines of where it has to be donw as long as your robbing energy fromr the air. - This tranfers it to the glider.
