Default What would happen if.....?

I'm thinking of kitbashing a pica corsair(1/8th) into a stand half a mile away and squint scale version of the Budweiser light racing super corsair. Now one of the distinguishing characteristics of this plane was that the builders chopped several feet off the ends of both wings.

What do you guys (and girls) think would be the effect on flying characteristics on this size plane if I took away the wingtips. Wingspan would probably go from 61 inch to around 59 inch.

The wingtips will probably change from something like this _____) to something closer to this ______] Any ideas?

Cheers

Christie,

My guess would be that the small increase in wing loading would be almost unnoticeable.

i dont think you would notice either, 2 " loss is not a big % loss on a wing that size.

should not affect the stall characteristics either

I agree with what has been said, the loss of 2" should not be a problem. Just remember that the airplane will stall at a slightly higher speed. Other than that, not much difference.

Thanks,

Reg

i should not have thought that the higher stall speed would even be noticeable with a loss of 18 (my guess ) square inches wing area

the only thing i can think of is that it will be a bit less stable with roll because of the decreased surface of the wing. the idea of taking the wing parts off was to prevent violant flutter (bad thing) and because it fl8ies at such a high speed, it doesn't need all that wing. go ahead
