Hello
I am going to build a 1/12 scale Corsair from 3 view and I was wondering which airfoil to use
So far I have chosen the Clark Y would this be a good choice?
thanks
steve

Steve,
I would be inclined to use something with a little less camber, which is to say more nearly symmetrical. Just don't call it semi-symmetrical. Even a symmetric airfoil might be fine.

The successful Top Flite P-47 in a couple of sizes uses the Selig S8036/8037 root/tip combination. These airfoils were designed and tested by Dr. Selig for powered models. Pix show S8036 (root) 1st then S8037 (tip) 2nd. I have used these sections on several model designs and they work great!

What are you using the model for? If it's a sport plane, then that's some good advice, but you might want to double check those airfoils at the Re of your actual plane. Some airfoils have nasty little surprises in store when used at the wrong Re, the Seilg 8036 is one of them. The 8036 is common in B class combat planes, and works very well. But it has a nasty stall tendancy when the Re gets a bit too low. We found this out the hard way when people started using teh 8036 on SSC class planes or with smaller tip chords in B class.

I am using the plane for just flying around not combat I have a spitfire the same size and enjoy flying it.
I wanted an airfoil that will get me in and out of trouble only learned to fly this year. I am flying a gp ultimate bipe and it is perfect for me but I love the warbirds and love building the planes.
thanks
