Default GPS Interface

I pose this question to anyone with any experience. In my Senior Design class at college, my team and I have been given the task of constructing an Unmanned Arial Vehicle with recon capabilites--only taking a picture. It must be able to fly itself to a certain position and then take the picture and fly back on its own navigation. Take-off and landing can be done by a human pilot if necessary. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge in the area of interfacing a GPS into radio control flight? We have a limited budget and need to do as much as we can on our own, so buying expensive electronics is discouraged. It is after all a college senior final project. Any help would be great, and I'll try to keep updates on our progress in the forums for those who are interested.

Silent J
