Since we're always talking about performance enhancements, I thought some of you might enjoy seeing some images, graphical data, and a movie, of my "Eliminator 2" sport jet flying in the "X-Plane" simulator. It's at http://www.nextcraft.com/j47_sportjet_x-plane.html

If you modify an existing plane, as I did, you can reduce the time somewhat, but it's not fast.
By CAD standards, the builder interface is clunky and tedious. So, I just start with a flyable plane, and gradually tweak it as time goes on, whenever I've got the patience. The data you can get makes it worth it at the end, in my opinion.
You can download the sim (PC and Mac) for free and try it out. It comes with several additional packages, "Plane Maker", "Airfoil Maker", and "World Maker", so you can design your own "stuff". ( http://www.x-plane.com ) and more info (including hundreds of downloadable planes) at http://www.x-plane.org/

There are some very aerobatic airplanes included with X-Plane, including an Extra, but none of the ones I've seen fly like what we're used to seeing in model aerobatics. It's really up to the model creator to make sure everything is right, and some of the guys who contribute models to X-Plane just hack them together.
Since I've used it with success, I think that if you build your aerobatic plane correctly in X-Plane, it will give you some worthwhile results. There are details that X-Plane doesn't model, so it's not absolute. It doesn't model all the effects produced by the fuselage, for example, such as lifting forces. Instead, it's up to the creator to input a drag coefficient, etc..
Still, for the price, it beats wind tunnel time at NASA. (!)
