Default Clancy 'Big Bee'-no ailerons?

Couldn't resist buying a Pinnnnk and blue Bee at the LHS, someone had traded in. Has a 5' wing span-the chord is so deep it looks like a door-and, with no ailerons. 40 2S, and it took 9 oz. of lead in the nose to balance. No sign of the previous owner having any weights in it so I'm somewahat doubtful it ever was flown. What kind of flying characteristics can I expect with rudder only. Used to fly a Spectre glider with rudder and elevator only and I coud spin that thing in a heartbeat! Bill

The bees are designed to fly well without ailerons because of the polyhedral wing design. The rudder rolls this plane almost as if it were ailerons. Put the rudder on the right stick and pretend it is an aileron control while you fly. The biggest difference between aileron turns and rudder turns is that a plane tends to dive more with rudder than with ailerons.

Someone at our club built one of these planes and put photos of club members in the windows of this plane.

The Bee is a wonderful model, reserved for those who still marvel at the miracle of powered flight. It's the perfect airplane for those calm evenings when nothing but a slow, graceful airplane will do.....

Great fun, and none of the hassles.

The rudder is more than enough.

I noticed the manual (on the net) for the ARF Big Bee included ailerons, so I wondered if they were necessary, or nice to have. I did plug the rudder into the aileron slot, which is how I used to fly my glider-'til I tried to make a low level downwind turn! I have a nice Hanger 9 Jet pilot which seems the ultimate ha ha pilot. Think I'll put Air Force markings on it-just haven't figured out which air force.

Flew my Big Bee today for the first time-what a blast! Flew it 'til I broke the bungees and thought my battery was about dead. The thing will hot dog, or fly all day with about 2 clicks above idle. Indeed, the rudder is all that is needed! Just plain fun!
