Default thoughts on design

I am curently working on a profile build. My second design and i have some questions. A lot of the guys over in the profile section told me to get a wing area of at least 1200 sq in. in order to do this in the wing it would have to have been to big for the look i am after. So i thought I would just over size the airlones and stab, elev to meet this requierment. all together with wing and stab, elev. i have 1530 sq in. of area. the wing is 60 inches long 13 inches wide, the air. are 4 inches wide and 30 inches long. the stab is 30x17 including elev. My question is do you include the stab in the area and what does the size effect how the plane flies? Is this a good way to get the targeted wing loading with out increasing the wing. thanks, mike

What's the airplane's purpoe?
Your -wing area- is 780 sq. in. (60*13)
Your -planform- area is 1290 sq.in. (30*17)+(60*13)
Only the wing area affects wing loading.

Well the purpose is to do some 3d stuff, and to just have a different airplane.thanks for the info. It is also a test bed for my first foam design. Sheeted foam fuse, foam rib, foam epenege. It started as an idea about a year ago and I am now just starting to finish it after a bit of a hiadus from it. I am almost ready for covering, do you think the elevator is to big? Can an elevator be to big? It is designed around a .60 irvine for power. the all up weight is around 4 pounds minus covering.

The horizontal is way too large; the chord is too much!
Why a 17" chord? That's less than a 2:1 aspect ratio.
The elevator would be enormous, and subject to flutter.
A 20% horizontal with that span would have a 6.5" chord.

The actual chord is 14 inches, 17 inches is with the ailrons (sp?). What size stab would you recomend?

The wing chord always includes ailerons and flaps. Everything you can see in a top view.
I'd cut that horizontal to at least 50% of the area.
A little less span, and a lot less chord.

well I cut the stab down 2 inches on each side and made it 6 inches wide. It looks better now.
