anyone ever use stall strips to prevent tip stalling on an aircraft that is known to be prone to this? I've never even seen these before, i've just read about them being used on real airplanes to help the root stall before the tips.

long ago in the seventies there was an article in rcm where a plane was tip stalling and a quick and dirty fix was to add triangle stock to the inboard half of each wing panel so that the leading edge was a sharp point.this did stop the tip stall by forcing the inboard part of the wing with the sharp leading edge to stall first.this method can also be used in place of wash-out .

Similer but differnt. I know Nasa used a symetricl L.E. all the way out to the end of the wings, and about three feet or so from the tip in it was a flat bottom airfoil. The effect was to creat a more "predictable" stall. Havent ever tryed it may be intresting, may be a new thread.

The use of stall strips with any foil in the Selig database can be simulated by the new version of profili, along with many other goodies.
It also allows you to design your own airfoils, and compare them with any other.
I paid the ten bucks to register, and have a ball with the program.
