Why check CG inverted?

Gentlemen,
Why do most instructions have us invert our aircraft when determining longitudinal CG? Why can't I just "jack" it up off the gear to find the balance point?

Low wing planes are easier to balance inverted as then the weight of the fuse is below the wing. The opposite of is true for high wing planes.
