Effect of modifying trailing edge?
I am building a Lanzo Record Breaker from 1939 plans. It has a span of about 8 feet and a chord of about 14 inches with an under-cambered airfoil. The plan calls for a 3/8 X 1 inch trailing edge. I would like to use a 3/8 X 1 1/2 inch trailing edge due to the availability of preshaped stock and to add strength to the wing for R/C flying.
Will the slight change in the trailing edge effect the flight quality/character of the plane? Thanks, Cliff |

No.
Go for it. |
RE: Effect of modifying trailing edge?
It will change something, but probably nothing you would notice unless you had 2 planes, one stock and one made wider, to compare. You will change the airfoil a little since you are lengthening it by a slight amount.

It would be fairly simple to make a 3/8 x 1 trailing edge out of a 3/8 x 1 1/2 piece of trailing edge stock. That is what I would do.

RE: Effect of modifying trailing edge?
I think this was asked in another thread on the Venture 60, and the designer responded with a guess that it would soften knife edge handling....I think it was the Venture 60....
