RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
The Big Brown Truck of Presents just paid me a visit! Plane is in super condition, get packing job by Aeroworks. The box was quite beat up as usual, but no damage to the contents thanks to the protective packing they used. I'm going to jump on this project hard this week and I'll be sure to post some pics of the ZDZ 60 and the smoke system install. The red/black covering scheme is super looking in person, I like it better than the other one. More to come....

Hey Jtsails,
What color? I have the red and black. I am thinking about the ZDZ60. I read somewhere it was discontinued. Also considering the Evolution/MVVS 58. I was borned in High Smith Hospital(1946). There are a lot of RC airplane guys in NC, I have seen post from all the small towns around Fayetteville. Looking forward to building the Ultimate, this is my first biplane and my 5th gas. I will be watching out for your photos, I will post some later.

Hey George,
I also got the red/black. I was the one that posted about the ZDZ 60. I was told by Mike Dooley at RCShowcase that they didn't have anymore and they did not intend to get anymore. He said that the 50ng was very close to the same power and much lighter, better power to weight ratio. I bought my 60 used and after a little repair work it runs super, definitely stronger than any of the 50's I've messed with. I don't have any experience with the Evolutions, just remember that their claimed power is using a tuned pipe which won't fit in this plane.
It's ironic that you were born in Highsmith Hospital, my office is next door! Small world!

I just got off the phone with Troybuilt models, they bought RC Showcase and will start selling all of there(RC Showcase) inventory at a discount in a couple of weeks. The 50 is 3lbs and the 60 is 4lbs. The zdz 50 is suppose to be stronger than the DA50. Thanks again for the info and yes it is a small world.

TBM bought out RCShowcase, that's potentially good news, as long as they are going to be the importer of ZDZ. I've always had super service from TBM.

Just Ask....
Here's the wings. Covering is beautiful! not a wrinkle in them. Went over all the seams with the iron and started to work. Found that my Futaba servos (BLS 451's) are too deep to fit in the wings, they hit the top surface of the wing, so I made 3/16" mount block for each servo. Finished the top wing tonight with no other problems, but this is all I'll get done tonight.
More tomorrow...

Is it possible to peel off the black covering off just the top of the wings? Is their red beneath the black? If you can I think it would clean it up a bit. That black looks like some kind of raven feathers???

RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
The AW Ultimare 20-300 will be getting the Evolution 58gx2. Talked with Mark at AW today. He said the Evolution 58 work great on the Ultimate. I have a couple of DA50s and Evolutions and they all crank and run great. I just wanted a little more power.

RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
If I was going to buy an engine instead of using one I already have, the evolution 58 would certainly one of favorites. I've not run a 58 but my little 26 is a champ. Probably not going to get much done tonight but I'm planning a big push tomorrow.

RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
Haven't looked at them yet, what's the issue? Also haven't heard anything about any replacement parts. I did notice that the aileron push rods are a little too long. I'm going to take one of the locknuts off to enable me to screw them in far enough. It is going to work but they should be a half inch shorter. Also, the elevator servos are going to have to be shimmed up 1/8" so that the servos will not be touching the sheeting on the other side of the stab. Probably won't be a problem with Hitec servos, they require a little less depth than my Futabas.

How much too long ?
Are they the same length that is listed in the manual?
I have Hangar 9 Titanium links I purchased for the plane. I bought the lengths listed in the manual.

The two long push rods are 4 inches or 101.6mm. I think they should be about 2 1/2 inches. The four shorter push rods are correct(ailerons).

RE: AW Ultimate 20-300
This what is in the online manual
(4) 4-40 3” left and right hand threaded pushrod with
nuts for ailerons
(2) 4-40 4” left and right hand threaded pushrod with
nuts for elevators.
4 inches to 2 inches for the elevators is quite a bit. Is the servo positioned so that the output shaft of the servo is towards the leading edge or the traling edge ?
It should be towards the leading edge.
