Here's where I got it: (bolding added, and name "Xed" out)
With the turbine engine he needs to change his FAA registry.

Dude, that is sweet. Single seater from the looks of it. Do you own it or are you checked out in it and flying someone elses? Who took the pics...they are great shots.

RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Low,
It is a single seater (unfortunately) and I do not own it. I just get to borrow it from time to time.
The pics were shot out of the back of my T-6 flown by model pylon racer Stu Mcafee and shot by a buddy of his.
Regards,
Jason

That makes it the best kind of plane...just borrow it and fly for the price of expenses and let the ower take care of the rest. R-U- going to Oshkosh this year with your T-6 or the Zeke? Pretty sure we will be taking Frostbite (ex T-6 Reno racer) this year.

BTW- Do you mind if I post your pics in the gallery on my website. None of my pics are for sale, just for enjoyment. http://www.twoplaneguys.com/miscstuff.htm

My parents were brought together by model airplanes back in the 30s. My dad married his flying buddy's twin sister. Model airplanes have always been a part of our lives.
Mom wouldn't let Dad persue his Full Scale license but they allowed me to start flying and even solo at 16 before they would let me borrow the family car.[8D] Mom didn't trust light airplanes.
Got my license 3 days before leaving for Vietnam. Took my Dad for his first ride in a C-150. That was a very proud moment for him. It was also the last time I saw him because he died in a plane crash 6 months later when my brother failed to maintain his airspeed while landing his Aronca Cheif.[]
300 hours later, I now fly with my feet firmly planted on the ground. My childhood dream was to fly R/C for a living and now I am a UAV test pilot. A tough job but somebody has got to do it.

Hi Dan!!
We have been friends for years and I didn't know that story.
Irony, pride and tragedy within three paragraphs. the next time we're at a meet or I'm in CA we will have to share a brew.
I was modeling before high school around 1962 or so. When in Vietnam (flying Hueys) I ordered an A1-E Skyraider from AHC in New York. After building it I was shot at by an A1-E South Viet Namese pilot around Song Bei mountain so I threw the model away. Had a bad feeling about A1-Es after that. When I got back from Viet Nam I ordered a three channel PROPORTIONAL radio from Jim Goad's company in Indianapolis. I can't think of the name of it right now.
When in New York on an overnight I went to AHC in South Manhattan to just see the place. They have been in business since God created air. What a shock!! They started mail order shipping models before the Post Office invented stamps. It's a tiny place on the second floor with a hole in the floor that they pull a rope on a pulley to bring up the stock. While I was there a guy ordered an engine and I saw the guy haul it up on a rope!
Rudest people in person I have ever shopped with. Nicest people in the world to order from when I was in Viet Nam.

I am still impressed with your fascination with SeaPlanes as an airline pilot and a guy that sells fabric covering. But my favorite story is how F&M got it's name from "Fish and Models". LOL I love that story and tell it often.
You need to come back to Lake Havasu. Every year I hear a new story from a major member of the Model Aviation Industry.

RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Hi guys; Have been getting interesting bits from the thread for a time, but don't recall if I ever officially introduced myself. Lee Robinson, W. Palm Beach FL. One of the guys above beat me-- I was a laggard and took 4 hrs, 35 mins. to solo a 60 horse Franklin-powered J-3, with cylinder blow-by problems, in Aug. 1945. Have 5000+ hrs, inalmost 60 different planes! (a lot of ferrying!); former FBO & American dealer. Flown singles from homebuilts to T-6, multi Apache, to Lockheed 10, but no turbine experience except about 6 hrs in Jetranger chopper. Would like to throw in a small commercial here for a long time (about 47 yrs) flying buddy who has lost his medical. Has decided to sell his homebuilt Stits Playmate, folding wing, complete with BIG trailer, with 160 hp upgraded engine. 850 hrs A & E. I have been flying with him as PIC "ballast" for the last couple of years. He's 77, and I turned 80 on 3/21. But he has a heart problem, and I'm blessed with excellent health, and still carry comm. medical. Today I build custom retract systems for large RC models. Keeps me out of mischief! (DARN!!) I guess I haven't posted in this thread. I have a commercial cert. with instrument rating ASEL and AMEL. CFI and CFII ASEL, currently working as an instructor at a Part 141 school. I have about 340 hours total. I guess the most interesting plane I've flown (but couldn't log since I wasn't multi-rated at the time) was a Beech 18.

RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Put me down on the roll call for +300 hr Private Pilot, flying Pipers strictly for fun. I fly out of Danbury, CT but live in the Hudson Valley, NY, a beautiful place to fly. You can catch me the first week of every August flying the family down to Grand Strand for a week in the waves. Great post, thanks! Dan

And generally the full scale pilots are harder to teach to fly R/C too! Most I've encountered have a severe case of "knowitallitis". They usually learn the hard way, via their checkbook!
ORIGINAL: 270win
It will vary from person to person. I did my solo in 9 hours and I have a freind that was able to land a Piper Warrior on his second lesson... Then again I've seen some rc guys take FOREVER to get their license. It's more difficult to fly an rc well than it is to fly a full scale airplane.

I started RC at the age of 14, and soloed full scale at 17. I've been an airline pilot for almost 20 years, and have taught many of my fellow pilots how to fly RC. Every one of them, without exception, picked it up in no time.
My experience is that many pure R/C guys get a severe case of "knowitallitis" as soon as they find out the guy they're talking to is a pilot.
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard "R/Cs are much harder to fly than full scale" when the guy finds out I am a pilot.....
Even if there are lots of similarities, the skill set for each is quite different.......

FAA Cert. #1361669 COM. SMEL. INST
ATP B-707;720;727;747;757;767; L-1011
Varried edxperience. Flew Navy SNJ's as student, T-34 as instructor. Also flew T-28's, F9F-5. F9F-8, F2H-3's with the 7th Fleet, as well as Martin 202 and 404, Constellations with VR-7A, TWA, S&W, who farmed me out to Aer Lingus. Only misshap was a blown tire landing a B-727 at Cleveland. They never warned me of 4" of standing water on the runway.
No accidents, incidents, or flight violations. Started flying in 1953, hung it up in 1987. Capt TWA (Trans World Ain't) Ret, LCDR USNR Ret.. Seven Log Books, probably betweeen 18-20,000 hours.
Most fun I ever had was 8 hours in a Para-Plane. Best pay was $130/hr with TWA on the L-1011.
I also have a 3rd Mates Licence from USMMA 1953. Sailed on 3 Merchant ships, 2 Tin Cans, and the WASP. Qualifed as OD Underway on the WASP to keep my 3rd Mates licence active.
It's been a good life. [8D]
