I wanna play Don! This one is a Gwinn Aircar. Not the most aesthetic of designs! I think Claude McCullough built a large model of this airplane some years back.

I to think Chad is right and it Had a little english Pobjoy radial engine. Howard Hawks I think was killed in one of these while demonstrating it at the National Air Races.

Your both correct but it was Frank Hawks that was the demo pilot and he failed to clear some high tension wires and crashed. Don
Chad hope all is going well for you.

Yup screwed the first name up. My wife used to get real mad when I would forget hers[X(]

Neet Odd Ball pitts and bet it is the one and only experimental Electra varient called the C-40B and later in 1940 convered back to a C-40A with conventional gear.

Here is another picture I think of the same airplane:

John:

Howard Hawks was another movie type.

And I screwed up when I put Frank Hawks in the Gulfhawk, the Gulf driver was Al Williams.

I guess the C-40 wasn't odd enough. This should be a tester though. Don

Don that little amphib is sure interesting but no joy. At first I thought something like Loening's Air Yaght or the Eastman Sea Rover but neither are anything like it.

Man I sure would feel uncomfortable in something that used compression struts to take the flight loads like that.

John, Look at a Cessna Agwagon or Piper Pawnee. They both have compression struts and they seem to work fine. By the way both the amphib and the twin are US certificated airplanes. Don

No more guesses on the amphib and twin? If those are too hard I've got easier ones. Don

And the second photo is a Saab 17 probably the 17S. First aircraft designed and built by Saab of Sweden.

Replica of the first airplane to fly coast to coast, the original was sponsored by a soft drink company, and the plane became known by the name of the drink; Vin-Fizz. Pilot? Calbraith Perry Rogers. The year was 1911

Bill

PS: It was a Wright Flyer model EX. wr.

Vic:

Kathryn Wright and I never married, but we raised her brothers Orville and Wilbur just as we would have had they been our sons,

Haw.

Don't knock history; many would profit from its study.

Bill.
