What a great day for composite aircraft builders everywhere!
The Rutans are to the 21st century what the Wrights were to the 20th.
I was out at the hangar for the press-day unveiling of the Voyager, just a few years back.
Thanks for the link to today's historic photos, Tall Paul.

I was at the first spaceship landing, Columbia at EAFB... this one was BETTER!
The plane is made of paste, cloth and sticks!
Doesn't ooze toxic fumes all over everyone.
Flies, doesn't plummet..
The carrier plane (which looks wierd even for Rutan
) got down before it did!
And wasn't paid for by you and me thru some pol stealing tax dollars..

I've always loved the Rutan designs. Instead of taking a conventional design and modifying it to do the task adequately, he starts with the task and designs an original aerodynamic machine to do the task exceptionally.
For those who don't know what the score is:
SpaceShip One
Government Zero

Tall Paul: Thanks for the pics! Must have been great to have been there [8D] I saw vids of the takeoff & landing. One thing about the landing, he has to get lined up right the first time. W/O power no second chance to go around [X(] He did a heck of a job. That would be an awesome experience.

Here might be the best of your pre-flight shots, Paul.
If you view this at full size, you can make out the turbine-exhaust, heat waves distorting the 747 behind.
Tells the whole story.
Ok, so who's going to be the first modeler to duplicate the White Knight in scale, with it's two jets, including a drop-off and fly, rocket-Spaceship One?
It should be capable of establishing some outstanding model-rocket altitude records, if nothing else!

I watched Columbia land the first time... It came over the field at 50,000 feet, and was on the ground in just a couple minutes.
It resembled an anvil coming down from that altitude. The lifting body flights I saw prior to that were the same. Landing wasn't even optional!
The SpaceShipOne.... glided.. it took longer to get down than the White Knight did. The landing pattern wasn't hurried at all. Nice long flare at round-down..
The orbital plane Rutan comes with.. I expect THAT will be unusual.

And now, a spaceflight legend.

Truly amazing what he did. I really wish I was there to see, but I'm a little too far away......[

]Anyway, I content myself with just some videos of the event. Do you know where I can get some??

Hi Guys
I am looking for a three-view diagram of SpaceShipOne, I would like to see if it is possible to construct a model of this little spacecraft. I would like to build one with a standard glow engine with a pusher prop.
If anyone knows where i can find a three view, please let me know.
regards
Werner

I am also planning on building a r/c SpaceShipOne. I intend to power mine with an Estes E motor that is plugged. Since no 3-views are currently available I was forced to come up with my own based on pictures located at www.scaled.com. Imitation is the finest form of flattery. Hope this gives you a place to start from Werner.

I would like to see Gordo once the model has been completed, this will be some time as my FW190 [http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_85...m.htm#2236882] has to be completed first.
