What does the foam do?
Keep it from exploding?

Looks like knew his landing gear wasn't right before landing because he set up to take the cable. The missile on the wingtip would concern me a little.

These photos are proof the Israelis are the cause of the Middle-East Crisis.
If the Israelis didn't have weapons, they couldn't hurt Arabs, and Arabs would like
Israelis. It's so simple.

The only reason the Israelis are still there is because of US aid and of course, the "Bomb". The Arabs would like nothing better than to vaporize them and they would have long ago if it had not been for us.... I have been there, seen it first hand. There will never be any "like" there let alone love between peoples....
As far as the missile, the explosive material is very stable. It requires a charge to set it off (i.e. like a blasting cap or squib) and it will not explode violently even when exposed to fire....
And yes, I am a rocket scientist!!

Now when the article said this:
What did he mean? I understand the controls are fly by wire, but does he mean he re-wired the control stick in flight with a missing wing????
I have heard this story before and seen the pics. Is there somewhere I can find proof of this happening? Does MD (boeing now) acknowledge still that this has happened?
Cool if it's really real though!

I re-connected the electric control to the control surfaces.....

Yes, MD and the succesors did acknowledge this incident-------I'm coming up empty on where I found that right now.
Truth is stranger than fiction------I know I would have lost money on this one, but-------.
Just don't expect incident number two! This pilot drained the swamp of luck on this one.
Ben Lanterman, retired AE from McAircraft can fill you in. While he was primary on the F-4 he was also involved with the F-15. He is also a very active participant in the Aeronautics Forum on RCU and an active RCer. Look up Ben Lanterman on the member list and send him an email. He is more than courteous.
Turns out he was more than a little involved in the anhedral stab on the Phantom. He does indeed know the MD operation and flight performance records-----at least until his retirement.
