Spectacular Approaches
Here are two approaches i have flown recently both in C172's
The first is an approach into ayers rock and the second is an approach is into Hamilton Island in Queensland.
I was on a trip round Aus to build my hours up for my commercial licence.
Add your approaches onto the thread only rule being that you flew the approach
Enjoy!

RE: Spectacular Approaches
I get bored with hard surface runways.
Actually I fly backcountry stuff a lot. Most of the time I am dropping off hunters or hikers to the easier strips. Last year I flew into the strip on the first two pictures in a 206. Its about 1600ft and on a hill. Go around is not recommended and you land one way and take off the other way. The second picture was just a few weeks ago when I was out messing around in a 152. Its only a few miles North of my airport and its good practice.

RE: Spectacular Approaches
A spectacular approach... take a 130,000 lbs airplane, cross the runway perpendicular at 200 feet and 270 knots. Make a 270 degree turn at 60-45 degrees of bank while bleeding off energy and configuring the aircraft. Roll out on final inside 1/2 mile, put her down on the 60' wide dirt strip and stop in 1700 feet from 110 knots. That's a spectacular approach

RE: Spectacular Approaches
A4 they are some beautiful mountain strips, i went flying yesterday to see some friends just north west of melbourne we landed at a farmers strip in taggerty with no gable markers or any markings just a piece of slashed grass i stupidly didnt take an approach photo It was great fun though having first to pass over head the strip at 50ft to scare the cows that were standing on the runway the challenge of flying into smaller strips is just great ill have to see if i can dig up some good photos of smaller strips

RE: Spectacular Approaches
Speaking of approaches, and departures too, for that matter, I just ran across a site that has some spectacular, very short, free video clips taken from the "Big Rocks and Long Props" video footage.
Any of you who appreciate short difficult landing sites, bush wheel equipped planes, Super Cubs, Maules, and Sherpas, and the pilots who can get the most out of them should enjoy this!

Yea, maybe that's why they call the video "Big Rocks"?? If you get a chance to watch the whole video, by all means do so! You'll see that these guys can do this stuff with at least some regularity, although I understand that they have lost a plane or two along the way.

RE: Spectacular Approaches
have you ever landed at a very narrow curved (i mean curved sideways not up and down!) strip with pylons right next to it and hangers on the runway?
here is a vid of me in my C42 doing just that

How about this one to a new airfield in Tibet; it's a large file and you'll have to paste it to your browser

The new Linzhi airport is at an elevation of 9,670 feet, and due to the
