Godspeed, Discovery
Just watched the RTF launch of Discovery. Man, it was a relief when they reached MECO. Things are by no means over, but at least that part's over with.
Good luck, guys...

I second the thoughts of the NASA director "we owe a debt of gratitude to the crew of Columbia for their sacrafice". I remember shedding a tear when I read the letter in MA from Willie McCool's father describing how proud he was of his son from the rc to full scale to outer space. I hope I never need to write a letter like that one about this guy.[8D]

I just read on yahoo news that there was something fell off the shuttle, they told Comdr. Collins they would have more detail by Wed. Dang I wish they would get it right, I hope there was no damage.

I have seen the video on TV. Looks like a piece of something (insulation?) fell off the main fuel tank. It missed the shuttle by a fair bit but I believe they are going to spend some time going over the shuttle to make sure its not damaged.

They also prepped in case something like this would happen and they brought items along to repair such things, so if something is damaged they might be able to repair it.
Plus they said if there is a chance that it wouldn't be able to re-enter, they have enough supplies with them at the International Space Station to last them till they get another shuttle up there.

The fact that NASA was willing to "bend the rules" to get this one off may be cause for concern. Are they pushing too hard now? What real difference would another month or two make in the mission? However, I'm with you all in hoping like hell it all goes ok. Best of luck to all and I hope they know we down here are with them.
