Model Plane, Drone, Bird or?? UFO ?

Anybody in Denver flying high! You know that Rocky Mountain high?

Seems too high for anything but a military drone, but who knows? A UFO for sure, at least for now!</p>

Denver is one mile high, so the model would be less than 3000 AGL. Many here have claimed that they need that much altitude to fly thier gliders, IMAC pattern, etc.

The question should be: Was the operator/pilot flying in a safe place. It is possible to exceed the 400ft AGlevel if there is an agreement with nearby airports. But, the operator/pilot is solely responsible for avoiding full size maned aircraft.

wow, a lot of talk for what might be a bird
(or might be a government/'public' drone)
(or might be a Model)
from the link in OP-
Its just gonna be more regs coming from the Feathered Airusers Administration (under EPA:Fish&Game)

so them jets better get their act together and stop harassing them birds
or the EPA will lock them jet pilots up for flying within... uh.... close enough to make any bird nervous

pffft, stupid birds

The corporate jet, a Cessna Citation 525 CJ1, was flying at 8,000 feet above sea level over Cherry Creek when the mystery object came close enough to make any pilot nervous.
"That's an issue because now we have something in controlled airspace that poses a danger," Former NTSB Investigator and 9NEWS Aviation Analyst Greg Feith said.
Feith listened to the air traffic recordings and believes the object could be one of three things:
- A military or law enforcement drone.
- A remote controlled aircraft.
- A large bird.
"Was this an unmanned vehicle that was part of some sort of law enforcement operation? Was this somebody that had flown a large model aircraft inadvertently into the airspace? Or was it just [a bird that] caught the pilot's eye so he believed it was an aircraft but could have been a very large wing span bird," Feith said.

Looks to be right at 3 miles from the threshold. How high should you be at that point during final?? 3 degree glide slope puts you a little over 800 feet. Not much margin for that field!!
The floor of the Class B airspace there looks like it is only +/- 2,000 AGL. And they are absolutely inside the Class D for Centennial.

We'll have to wait till the video gets posted to U-tube. Look very closely and see if anybody can tell what kind of large bird it was as the jet goes by in the other direction then we'll know for sure.

A new fact of life is that the media will put out 'information' which will confuse our harmless recreational activities with drones, terrorists, thought to be extinct pterodactyls, etc. This is something we as individuals, and the AMA organization, need to recognize and counter as best we can.

Just think what they will say if someone flys a model plane that looks exactly like a pterodactyle! There was a plan for one a few years ago. Fly that around the airliners, especially one with a photo journalist aboard, and see what happens!

Some years ago, around 1980?, there was an article in Model Aviation about Paul McCready designing, building and flying a pterodactyl model. It was the cover photo as I recall. Not sure I spelled his name right.

Too bad you folks didn't bother to follow this story further rather than jumping to conclusions and worst case scenarios. There was a weather balloon found that met the description of the object. It was NOT an RC aircraft.

Well...after all we are our own worst enemies...
those damn weather balloons have been nothing but a hazard for much too long. Could you just imagine if a full scale airplane collided with one causing the airplane to ultimately crash into a bus full of Nuns, causing the bus to go out of control and then crash into an orphanage, causing a fire that kills everyone.... We need to do something about them before some catastrophe happens...

One day, in the 1950's, when we got out of high school, we saw this round shiny thing making erratic moves way up in the sky. Some one said "weather balloon". We all agreed and went about our business. Syears later, one came down on the ranch. It had a number to call. My folks called and the balloon people came and got it.
