It's not live yet. This is what was noted on the FAA page dealing with the registration:
The FAA Small UAS registry is expected to go live during the day on December 21.
Keep in mind they might not have given a specific time as some malcontents were suggesting that everyone purposefully try to register at the same time and crash the system, as if this juvenile act of civil disobedience would teach the "man" about...what exactly? Bizarre behavior for adults.
Anyway, check back here throughout the day, I'm sure the will have a link updated.

I just registered. I have to say it was the most unduly burdensome four minute 20 odd seconds of my life; I understand now why AMA is fighting it so much, it was very traumatizing.

Still nothing.............. I went here: https://registermyuas.faa.gov/register I knew I would crash the site!
After going back to it and reloading the page for the fourth time, I was able to proceed. Very easy.

Correct, that was their suggestion, which of course met with immediate scorn, second guessing, and naturally, criticism. Because AMA. But ultimately it's a personal choice, it's up to you! I don't see the harm in doing it now, or waiting a week or so. Personally I was curious what it looked like and how smooth it would run.

All my toys are now legal, good until December 2018. Tempers ought to have been soothed by then, although there's some doubt in my mind. The process was very easy to follow, a trait in web pages the government usually avoids. Of course, the site requires that you register drones, no mention of airplanes, and that tends to cause a knot in my drawers.
