As temporary membership cost 19.95 good for 90 days with full benefits, requires to sign up via email and is for the first time new member, I do believe there is some information on our web site that addresses this, but I am working at home and do not have access to the internet

New Introductory Membership

With an ever-increasing number of recreational activities from which consumers can choose, it is important that we make sure modeling gets its fair share of exposure.

With that in mind, AMA is putting the final touches on a new Introductory Membership Program that will create even more awareness of the sport, and hopefully introduce new people to the fun and excitement that it offers.

With the projected launch in the fall of this year, the program will offer new participants the opportunity to "try" a membership on a limited basis. The advertising promotion will be aimed at new segments that haven't been reached before.

Watch for more exciting details in upcoming issues of Model Aviation, on the AMA Web site, and in other areas of the model-aviation press.- Tom Schwyn

I called the AMA yesterday to get more information on this program. I was told that it is going into effect around the first of the year and no membership cards will be issued. As a possible incoming president of my local club there are a few things that bother me about the program as it was explained to me. First there will not be club cards issued. This will create a severe headache for local clubs just in the area of freq. control at the field. Our club is planning to allow these temps to fly as guest rather than burden our club secretary with the paperwork hassel of trying to keep up with 90 day members. I would rather that the AMA issued a temp card of another color or some other method of differing it from the full membership cards. It would be virtually impossible to place an E-mail reply in our freq baord at the filed. I appreciate what the AMA is attempting to do here but please don't burden the clubs with an excess of paperwork.

Our club has decided the same. People with the temp memberships can fly as guests, but to join must have full 1yr AMA membership.

We have a lot of TDY type of traffic with all the military bases in San Antonio and all the schools. That caused us to create a temporary membership that is limited to less than a year and costs 1 1/2 time the monthly rate of annual membership. We decided to just use that for the trial membership from AMA.

Horrace,

Did I read the above right.....?

She responded to an email from you, while she was at home working on the modelaircraft.org site, and said that she didn't have access to the internet....

is that like an oxymoron....? or maybe the reason some things fall through the cracks.....

This is not intended in any way to slam the AMA, I just found it to be very amusing...and it doesn't take much

I quoted what I received. She did not say that she was working on the AMA web site, just "...working at home."

I think sending and receiving email can be done via cell phones these days. I have a son-in-law that travels all over and he does that.

Not beating the point, it just amused me.......
