When you join the AMA are you immediately covered, or do you have to wait for your card before you can start flying? If so how long does the card take to be delivered? The field I plan to fly at has signs saying AMA card must be shown beyond this point. Can I fly with AMA recipt of purchase? or do I need to wait until I actully have the card?

sounds like a question that the club officers will havve to answer for ya.

generally, once yer funds have cleared/posted at ama hq, yer covered from that point, now some clubs honour this, some don't.

AMA is not the one you have the problem its your club. read the AMA aplication and it explains how everything works. But AMA does not run your club, SORRY!

Well, the club doesn't want you flying at the site they control unless you have AMA insurance, and due to paranoid delusions of a certain AMA official that hopefully will soon leave office one way or another, you will not be insured until your check has cleared or your credit card company has honored the charge for AMA dues. You will not find this on the AMA application unless they have come up with a new one in the last couple of months. AMA does't run your club, they just tell your club who may be a member, and they will not allow you to be a member until they have your money in hard cash. So, sit and wait for your card to arrive.

Last time I was there, they wanted it with you. However that has been over 10 years.

i signed up on-line and had my card in 1 week.

AMA is suposed to go into efect when the app. is recieved and payment is approved. BUT with out # you can not find out if you are a member. What a crock!!! what if you want to fly at a meet ! Just try to get a land line through, And PC is hopeless.

You can still buy an instant membership from the CD of an event that is sanctioned.

What a waste , Then you have paid twice and well and all that other stuff. What good is all this High Tech. if you do not no how to use it. I was told the PC is only as good as the person using it.
They better get some to take care of their WEBB.
