When you contact member services, you should ask them.
I think they will have it unless someone asked for that number specifically.
I just updated mine for 2003-04 and you do need to wait until 10/1/02 for it to apply next year. If you register online, you can enter your old AMA number!

Jeff,
I kinda thought they would. I have found that they don't recycle the numbers just in case people come back. I just wish I remember what my number was in the 70's. I would like to have that number back! It was probably under 100,000

I kinda wished I remember my number from back in '83 as well.
The lady at AMA I spoke with when I got back to RC this past year told me they keep records for 10 years and they can look it up for you. Anything past 10yrs they can reassign your old number only if you remember it.
Oh well, at least I got my number from '92.
BTW, does anybody know if AMA assign vanity numbers for a fee? It would be nice if I could use my HAM call sign.

yes, they assign vanity numbers (we've got some at our club). i do believe they won't assign you any vanity number that starts with an L (like L123 because that's how they do lifetime members). also, the numbers aren't necessarily in sequential order. I got mine back in '88 (342081) and i've since seen people that joined after me with lower numbers (the lady on the phone also told me that).
