its pretty hard to criticize AMA about how they are handling the Electric fun flyers, when the Majority of the ads in Model Avaiation are by the sellers of the Electric Fun Fyers. its a matter of bread and butter. our dues aren't enough-- soooo--- what now?? dick

Why do I have to fly what others want? Why can't I fly whatever floats my boat right now? Some days I fly my electric and my giant sized stuff at the same field.
It seems to me that many have beat up the subject of attracting the (P)ark (F)lyer into the 'fold' and ignored the fact that flying is fun for one and all, regardless of the equipment used. My point of view is simply that the AMA should represent all functional aviation related models. The question should have been changed into what we all can do to make the organization better. I have at least one idea, but it seems to be unacceptable to the illuminati. Oh well….

You know what....Flying is fun.... Whenther it's 1/4 scale, acrobatic, sport. profile, electric, gas etc. As the Pres of my club I am more concerned with you people learning to fly responsibley and having as much fun as the rest of us. I could care less what you fly as long as you fly!!
Electric, gas who cares, get in the air and start smiling!!!!!

I was wondering the exact same thing...why all the park flier ads in MA? Wow, they are the least likely to join AMA, we're trying miserably to lure them in, yet that is what is being advertised in the magazine. Interesting.
SSRCCPREZ: you go man!
I like your attitude! My thoughts exactly...learning to fly what you've got, responsibly. That means different things for different people...flying within one's own ability, only pushing it as far as the learning curve will allow. Sounds like Cirkus Style to me...

I've been to a few clubs, but not that many different ones lately. The ones I've been to and the ones where I grew up really frown on people bringing their small electrics to the field...
Here's a comparison...slope soaring and stunt kites at the same site. Park fliers and glow or gas powered models shouldn't be in the air at the same time in most cases. So why not just take turns? It's all a matter of workin' it out and being polite, on both sides.

Tiger,
So what's wrong with slope gliders and stunt kites on the same site????? It happens all the time where I fly slope - That AND hang gliders AND parasailers. Guess what? we SHARE THE AIR. Sometimes it means taking turns, but mostly it just means staying out of the other guy's way. The best thing is that I don't have to worry about radio interference from a stunt kite or a hang glider. If you just talk to people you can work out most problems easily.

Models Aviation pays much less for a construction article, like 300 bucks less. So MA only has very bogus simple plane articles. That and ARF articles.
So why would a kit manufacture advertise in MA? AMA doesn't promote building.
Park Flyers are the "hobby" that is being promoted.
And I think the AMA is skating on thin ice about the "education" claim also.
But I never believed that the AMA promoted the hobby or legitimately provided education anyway. See, what the people are doing, then run out in front of the pack and claim that you are leading them. Call yourself not for profit. Sell your junk mag and be happy. Its marketing , baby.
