Default Should AMA Insurance Cover Commercial Training

Should the AMA Insurance cover "Professional", Getting Paid, R/C
Instructors ?

I say NO !!

AMA says that ANYONE with a valid AMA card can give R/C Flying lessons to anyone else that is an AMA Member.

AMA Also States" Any AMA Member can give a "ONE (1) TIME" Training Flight to ANYONE, providing they are at a AMA Charterd Club R/C Field. ONLY THE AMA Member is covered for AMA Insurance. So let's all go out and RISK our R/C Fields trying to give ONE (1) Flight to someone that has NOTHING TO LOOSE.
(Page 11 of AMA Charter Club Renewal Kit) http://modelaircraft.org/templates/a...003clubkit.pdf

The Oklahoma Radio Kontrol Society (TORKS) has a training program.

Here are the methods that we use in our club. They have worked for us taught many people to safely fly R/C, and have
continued to support our local Hobby Shops.

We use a "Sign-In" board at the R/C Field. First Come, First Served and it continues in that order. The Student knows when he is "NEXT UP" and has his equipment fueled and ready.

ACTUAL TRAINING:
(1) For Someone that HAS Purchased AMA Insurance: (Student Is Covered)

TORKS in Oklahoma City, OK. have had a R/C Training Program in place for the last 9 years. We close down our R/C Field every Thursday afternoon, just for Training. We do NOT Charge for Training.

Volunteer Instructors, listed on posters in the Hobby Shops, and Listed in our Web Site,(http://torks.org/lessons.htm )
will do their best to Train the "Newbe that has his own airplane, has his AMA card or verification, and has Joined TORKS.

ORENTATION FLIGHTS:
(2) For Someone that knows Nothing about AMA Insurance: (Student is still Covered)

Our CLUB has THREE (3) AMA "Intro Pilots". Intro Pilot sign-up is available to all AMA Charter Clubs for an additional $5.00 per person. Our Intro Pilots each have and maintain a Club Owned R/C Trainer that is brought to the field every Thursday.

ONLY the 3 INTRO PILOTS are allowed to give "Orentation R/C Flights" to the Want-A-Be R/C Pilot that wants to Try-It-Before-You-Buy-It. The Want-A Be does NOT need or have AMA Insurance. With the proper paperwork filled out and sent to AMA by the Instructor, AMA covers this Want-A Be for a maximum of 30 days. He or She is covered by AMA because of the Instructor's "Intro Pilot" Status.

We give each person THREE (3) Orentation Flights, that's enough to see if they are capable of learning or if they just wanted to try it. Some get Hooked, but most get away. The club treasury purchases al Fuel and anything else that is needed.

THIS SERVICE IS FREE TO ANYONE THAT IS INTERESTED IN OUR HOBBY.

DOES ANYONE GET PAID ? NO !!!

INTRO PILOTS ARE NOT PAID. VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS ARE NOT PAID, TORKS OFFICERS ARE NOT PAID !! Our Club Members maintain our 12.5 acre Flying site all on Volunteer Basis.

REMEMBER, THIS IS A HOBBY !!

Keep Em Flying, SAFE !
