Default How to join AMA?

I've been flying electric planes for 13 years. I like park flying, anything that is similiar to this...... I started to get tired of flying electric planes so i decided to fly gas engines planes. The problem is that i needed to have a AMA license to fly at my local fields. I live in Los Angeles country. I don't even have a local member club yet.!! For those who live near cerritos, please tell me the closes club to me. I think that Montery Park have a flying field. But i'm not sure.....hahaha. How do you get a AMA license? Is there a test that needs to be taken first? I appreciate for any help that i could get!!

And here it is.

Go to www.modelaircraft.org. Use your credit card to sign up on line.

If you can do that, they will send you an e-mail telling you you are a member. (Credit card better be good or they will rescind.)

Use the club locator to find clubs in your area.

Well, I don't have a clue what YNOT is talking about... there is no test for AMA. He's just being a snot. There may be a club related or public site related test, but I've never hopped around to enough clubs to see which ones have a test flight to certify you or anything regarding that matter. Here's how it goes. Sometimes you just show up with AMA card, put it on the frequency board, and go fly. Sometimes there are club reserved days, and that's when you need a club membership, or, all days are for club members, and you'll need both. Rarely, the club will have an entirely different insurance agency, and won't even let anyone fly without their insurance, I've seen that at a private field in Oregon. I was hoping to fly there as soon as I saw it (road trip), and I couldn't. Often, clubs that require both club and AMA will have some form of a visitors pass valid for a certain number of days, one day, whatever they choose. I'd say if you want to fly at a particular field, before you go to the field, visit and have a formal introduction at a club meeting, ask questions, and that should do it.

Good job encouraging growth in the hobby and membership in the AMA. No wonder the numbers are dwindling... and Hoss wants to blame it all on the DB and the EC...

Burger, where did you hide all your info to help the guy?

Tests come in many forms and methods. Looking up Academy of Model Aeronautics on the web and finding the information could be considered a test.

Going to a Hobby Shop, checking a MA mag, copying the phone # and making a call just might be a test AND 13 YEARS OF MODEL flying should be adequate to pass such a test.

I don't only blame the EC and DB as I blame the apathetic membership even more so. Now there is also another class of membership that doesn't do much for the sport -- Welcome to that class, burger!!![>:]

Well, I guess my class is doing much better than yours, we won the election and you did not.

I was talking to YNOT, not you. Sorry, if you misunderstood.

Since my class won the election and yours did not, I guess that means you couldn't pass the test, right?
