In visiting the AMA website the other day, I was reminded that elections are upon us for the even numbered districts. While my district (III) is not having elections this year, I still review all campaign statements to see where 'we' may or may not be heading. I noticed that only District VIII has more than one listing for VP candidate - all other districts being the incumbent.
STATEMENT: While I respect the VP's of II and X and do not know much or nothing at all about the others listed, I would have hoped that more members would step to the plate in an attempt to shape all aspects of the governing body of our sport/hobby. I know you may say that you cannot make a difference and I am certain I will read responses saying that the EC or even the president himself (DB) controls AMA, but I am ready and willing to defend my position that WE as members ARE the AMA.
In this forum, I read all this dissension and "what have they done for me lately" rhetoric. Well, what have you done for yourselves or for US?
CHALLENGE: ENGAGE - become involved. I am not asking you to step up at the district or national level. Start small - club officer, intro or instructor pilot, educator, something! But before you go back to practicing for the title of Professional Complainer, please ask yourself what you have done to make things better or worse.
Oh and before you ask or assume, I am the current two term Vice President of my local club, an ED resume submitted candidate, and have held office in other clubs or organizations throughout my 35+ years involvement in model and full scale aviation.
Vice President - Lorain County R/C
AMA #L778
IMAC #4078

Hello Kule:
Can you tell us (me) if you made the final cut of 3 to be interviewed in a couple weeks?
Can you say if Rob Kurek is in the running, or ever was? I can keep private if you wish.
