I prefer the direct approach also.

Forums like this are fun to kill time with but are about as effective as the pickets that have to protest several blocks away from where the actual event is being held.

As I have grown older I try not to take this hobby too seriously. This forum is the verbal equivalent of a souffle, it's interesting in the surface presentation but has little substance and will collapse if any pressure for verifiable information is put on it.

One thing for certain is the postings on this forum have no influence on the AMA leadership one way or the other.

We are about like the child that has the fake steering wheel attached to the dashboard on the passenger side. We can sit over there twisting the wheel and making our noises while dad continues steering down the path that he has chosen.
Well, now that my coffee has stopped coming out of my nose I can tell you this is the funniest thing I have ever seen. AND it is absolutely true.

It is one reason I will usually implore many of the more strident keyboard pilots to go to the source rather than waste their time here.

Tell the AMA. Go to the FAA. Nail the FCC. Get after that City Council. Share you wisdom with THEM. Why keep it here in our little forum where nothing can really be changed??

Thanks Hoss for the facts.

BTW Mode One did you see this? Now do you believe the AMA is not growing?
I certainly did, although I wouldn't consider it significant growth, it is growth, none-the-less. Yes, there have been ups and downs and it appears from a high in 2002 of 173,420, the membership has trended downward. If this trend is the foreshadowing of the end of the AMA as we know it, I will leave that to Littlecrankshaf and Kidepoxy to determine.

If this was a "Guess I got told where the bear sits in the buckwheat" by Littlecrankshaf, it seems to lack emphasis!

For a pretty picture-chart of the above data here is a link to another thread on RCU:

I've been lurking for years. And actually a member for just a month or so. This is my first post and what I want to say in response to Cain is this.

It looks like the US population has increased roughly 25% from 1987 to now (242 million to 300 million). While the AMA has grown roughly 41 at it's peak since 1987. It's down a bit right now from that but the growth of the AMA seems to be out pacing that of the country. Imagine that!

I disagree! I'm no grand fan of the AMA but, I did write them a letter some years ago in which I gave them several suggestions. I also explained in detail the why's and where fores of my suggetsions. Now, years later I see in their policies, activities and comments sufficient evidence to make me believe they either listened to me or to someone very much like me. Not exactly! Not even real close! But close enough for anyone to admit, they listened!

Wonders will never cease!

Good points S.Mule. The AMA has actually grown at a faster rate than the population! Welcome to the AMA forum, where hope abounds, but is usually drowned out. Yes, I too have seen things happen that I suggested right here on the forum. Was it my posts that did it? Probably not, but one more voice... It sure can hurt!

Mule-
Welcome aboard.

Nice first posts: You spoke your mind, presented information, and didnt call anyone an idiot or insult them while doing so.
Good on you.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Now teach some of the other posters here how to do that

Mule did you see the sentence about the postings not having influence? This is big time different than saying the people that post on this forum.

Past that I will agree that individuals working directly with AMA can influence change. Phadreus made a good point about taking things directly to the source rather than making posts on a bulletin board.

Since you have been lurking for some time, you can see that most of what is posted here is just people kiling time and possibly some examples of ADD and dyslexia. Welcome aboard.

I think people Like Mode and Hoss and (insert name here if you are pompus, arrogant, and condescending) will determine the fate of the AMA. People like them are having a great effect in Northern Nevada. We may have to find a bigger lake bed if they keep it up. It's only an 5 mile by 5 mile, but the AMA people can only run off so many before we need more space. 3 to 1 in new people is pretty good odds over the big bad all powerful sanctioned AMA club here for a lil ol simple group of freeloading rebels/ rouges/ outlaws like us. Or, could it be that trainer plane lifesapans seem to be much, much longer with us than the local club. Maybe both? Glad I'm not the only one that gets bashed Kid. I don't mind your wierd language at all, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what you're trying to say. Sometimes my fingers can't keep up with my rapidly firing brain neuron synapses either.

Geez Cowboy. How many dead threads are you going to revive just to say how all AMA members are bad? You are obviously bigoted against anyone who holds a current membership. Too bad for you. You are going to miss out on meeting a lot of really great people.

Show me great people here and I'll think about it. I know alot of good AMA members in Arizona. It's not about AMA members...it's about AMA members who want to trash someone who isn't one of them.

Take those mud colored glasses off. I happen to know I'm one of'em. You are the one judging people to be "bad" based on their membership status.
