Default AMA Survey - MA

Well, if you've got a beef with MA, here is your chance to give some input:

Kind of old is it not? 11-07? They will "survey" until they get their desired answers. [:-]

Ole Hoss got us involved in that survey back in the day,
in this thread- [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6649657/tm.htm]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6649657/tm.htm[/link].

While that thread got itself locked somehow ...
we could just browse it for the posts there that stayed on topic & continue the topic
<and only the topic>
in this unlocked version.

Such as:
Great Survey,
when will they actually post the raw answer data for us at home to sort & chart out ourselves?
No Spin, no creative data represntation, no paraphrasing (changing) the questions to fit the data to their desired outcome... none of the usual Survey tricks- just a text file with a few thousand answers in .CSV

Why not?
What would be wrong with nameless, spinless, unprocessed raw answer lines on what folks feel about MA?
Let the members see what the folks really said.

Yeah, the magazine sucks!! There's the truth as I see it.

Knock $20 off my dues and I might change my opinion of AMA. As it stands, I don't like being held hostage and FORCED to pay for a magazine that I just toss in the trash. I used to flip through it, but not anymore. I just throw it in the trash.

Opting out of the magazine would raise my opinion of AMA quite a bit. Do your job AMA! Provide insurance. Make the magazine an OPTION. And stop sending me credit card applications.

Lets stick to the Survey guys.

We all have opinions on MA,
and have debated them ferociously here before,
but this time the thread is about the Survey.

What you guys think of the survey, its validity, its accuracy, its purpose, usefulness, or effect on the AMA?

I think having the survey at all was a good start,
but to what end?

The survey was the same question over and over. Worthless. I used the open boxes to voice my opinions to AMA.

Why? We can disagree without throwing rocks at each other.

Whats wrong with me NOT liking the magazine and wanting an option to opt out of it for a lower fee in yearly dues?

Tell me why you don't agree with that?

I like the magazine and feel it's one of the best on the market. That doesn't mean you HAVE to like it. For a "moderator" you seem to be bucking for a fight! Really glad you figured out how to spell Pilot, anyway!

What does a person do to become a "Moderator" anyway, here on R/CU?

He doesn't have to like it, but he does have to buy it and that's what he's got a grumble about - but then you knew that, right?
A PPP member can opt out of buying the rag that is included in the membership ($10) and get MA instead for the difference in price ($26). Full-fare AMA members like Rcpilot that don't want MA should have the same option, taking the PF rag to throw away instead of MA and saving $26. Scheduled release of this member option will coincide with the day hell starts to freeze over.

I'm not looking for a fight. I'm just stating my opinion. Same as you or any other member. Me being a mod has got nothing to do with it.

You're glad I figured out how to spell pilot? Did it ever occur to you that when I signed up, the username Rcpilot was already taken? I checked the guys profile and saw that he hadn't logged in in since 2002 and I asked for that username. It was decided (by the admins) that I could change my name to reflect the proper spelling.

If thats all you got--then pardon me while I laugh my butt off.

[sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif]

You simply don't LIKE my opinion and you've chosen to make it personal by taking a cheap shot at how I spelled my username when I signed up. I thought it was a rather clever way to use essentially the same username. Gosh, you act like I'm the first guy to misspell something on the internet. Here's a clue-- I did it ON PURPOSE!!

abel_pranger gets it. I don't like being FORCED to pay for a magazine that I don't read. It's pretty simple. I have an OPINION that the magazine is worthless, because nothing in it appeals to me. You don't like THAT either.

What does a person do to become a moderator?
Well, a good start would be dropping the personal attacks on people who are simply disagreeing with you in an adult manner.

Contact the admins if you want to become a mod. Good luck with that.

I took the survey and I think moving some or all of MA to online may be a good idea.

THATS IT!!!! Put the magazine on line, and reduce the membership fee. Those wanting the magazine, can down load it for a fee.

See what brain storming does. Brings out the solution.

I took the survey. What's the big deal ? They
asked questions, I gave answers. I expect that
because a survey was done just recently, the
results of this one will pretty much be the same
as the last one.

So be it.

Regards,
Roby

I want the magazine delivered to me the way it comes now! I don't want to have to download it from a website! You guys that want to option out; or, read it on the WWW, that is your fight. However, leave us who are satisfide with what is going on now, alone!

I don't spend, and do not want to spend, hours of time sitting here in front of this computer monitor. I spend enough time during the day, doing that at work. I like to read books and magazines sitting in front of the TV, in bed, before going to sleep or during my morning oblutions. That is my enjoyment, as far as reading is concerned. You put this stuff on the net and that will be the end of it.

I like Model Aviation magazine! All the stuff you all seem so upset about, does not bother me. If some of you had to pay the fees I've paid to be a member of orginizations over the years, I think the "SHOCK" would probably just kill you DEAD!

Oh well, so much for keeping the chat about the Survey and not the Magazine

In light of the PPP clearly & ala carte-ly being allowed to srip off the $10 mag to tack on the $36 one,
why cant everyone do that. $58 Open guys should be allowed to strip off the $36 one & tack on the $10 one. <Or the $0 No-Mag one>

Youth get to choose
PPP get to choose ($10mag or $36mag)
Family get to choose ($30 or $58)
Foriegners get to choose
... seems the only folks that dont have a choice are the Regular Joe Opens

Mode is right,
Let the guys that choose to get a print mag continue to due so.
They shouldnt have a No Choice e-mag shoved on them.
Shoving No-Choice packaged benefit magazines (www or print) on folks that dont want them is wrong.

Mode,
If the AMA does make MA online only,
Will you drop out of AMA, or will you campaign to get back the Print MA you want?

I will likely not read, or read very little of, what ever the AMA would publish over the web. It's just not the way I am interested in getting information!

KE: Oh well, so much for keeping the chat about the Survey and not the Magazine
In the survey I basically told them to put all Electric stuff, All the advertising stuff, all the reviews (I can make my own decisions without what someone else sanctifies, about any modeling item) on the web, and then send me a MA that qualifies under the IRC (501) (c) requirements that has a tad of How To, construction articles and includes RC, CL, and FF informational columns, contest/event listing PLUS A LOT MORE OF AMA BUSINESS, WITH EACH DVP using at least 1/2 of his article to GIVE HIS PERSONAL VIEWS ON EC VOTES, AMA DIRECTIONS, AND OVERALL AMA INTENTIONS, such magazine definitely not in competition with the commercial free-market magazines.

Mode I and I are rather close in our views. I want the magazine available when I want to look through it, and I don't need a lap-top in the favorite "reading room." [>:] That is why I answered the survey as I did. Of course that survey will go to the bottom of File 13.

But Mode, would you try to get the magazine back into print if it went WWW only?
Or would just take what they give you (even by not reading it) and be content with the loss of the print mag.

There is more then enough web information about RC. There are probably more build threads on RCU in 1 year then the MA has probably sent you in the mail in their entire existence. Now let multiply that by all those other RC websites. So what would the point of putting MA online? It would literally become dust in the wind. There is a reason that magazines and newspapers have not been completely overtaken by the free Internet .... it's because some people actually want things in their hand and know that it's real. An online only magazine would only cheapen the AMA even more then some of you guys try to make it in the first place. Some things the AMA gives it's member deserve to show up on your doorstep each month.

No, I wouldn't try to get it back into print, if the majority wanted it via the WWW, then that's the majority's choice! I'd be disapointed, I'd say to myself: "Boy, I sure don't like the direction this technology crap is headed!!" Then I'd go down into the basement and continue to build model airplanes the same way I have since the early 60s.

I don't make a habit out of obsessing over things I have little or no control over. I've found that rolling with the punches, getting my licks in when I can and chosing battles which I have a chance in "h---" of winning, suits my nature better.

Lets not make up our minds to "Do Battle" until the presses actually stop rolling. What's said here on the AMA Forum of R/CU and what happens in reality, most of the time are two different things. This place can really be nothing more than a place where rumor mongers have some fun, or people who only want to argue congregate and allow their egos to run rampant.
