O.K. Ken, It's interesting how topics turn and twist over time! The original question I was interested in was: Is it normal for there to be a fee charged for participation in Fun Flys? Surely all who have responded to this thread so far, have input for this question.

Everybody knows the big money is in food and drinks sold at your event. I think we charge $10 landing fees.
Actually if you get some raffle prizes donated, or even a LHS to sell you a kit or two at cost, thats the biggest profit maker. Food does ok but if you price it out of reach people will just bring coolers, and then you have the cost of goods involved.

You right there. How we have always done it is Pilots pay a landing fee get lunch and a raffle ticket. They always buy more than one tickets. Everyone else pays for lunch and most will buy tickets also.

This is page two. At the end of the page one, R/C Ken asked us to stay on topic. The topic is: "Do you pay landing fees to fly at Fun Flys"? The topic isn't: "How should my club operate it's Fun Fly"! Our fun fly has been in existance for 8-9 years and has been very succesful! I'm not saying: I'm not interested in methods of making it more successful"! However that is not the topic!

I am interested in finding out success stories and will start another thread on this topic!

My club charges $5 - $10 and pilots get free lunch. Everyone else is asked for a lunch donation. Works very well.

No need for an apology, rcmiket. Your right, I needed to go back and see what had been posted previous to the off topic foray and most posters were on topic. So, I'm the one who needs to apologize! SORRY!! I have provided a thread on Fun Fly suggestions, for those who would like to do so.

Mark
