kinds of articles I would like to see in Model Aviation
There is an excellent article, eight pages long and lavishly illustrated, in the Jan. 2010 Flying Models, "Prop Checks & Balances" by Don Carkhuff. He shows construction and use of a combination prop balancer and pitch gage, and shows how to carve your own props of whatever diameter and pitch you desire.
Truss Ribs, by Jim Hiller, two pages long, shows how to make truss ribs for your wing. There are construction articles, ARF review and various columns, sort of like Model Aviation. All in 74 pages.
I realize that articles like the above are not of interest to everyone, but I think there should be more like them in Model Aviation.

RE: kinds of articles I would like to see in Model Aviation
In today's world, I think those articles have a very narrow appeal. They are both very good and fit in with FMs readership which I think is more builder/craftsman, true modeler than MA. Maybe I'm wrong but that is the way I see it. The appeal that UC as a group has had for me for many years (60+) is associating with more "real" modelers - it seems that in recent years that is changing. Let me be clear - RC, and certainly FF have many that meet that criteria as well, it is just that the majority in recent years in RC are migrating to ARFs.

In the past, AMA had an form you filled out and sent in outlining your idea. It was looked over by the editorial board and you were either rejected or encouraged to submit. I've made five submissions and had two articles published in Model Aviation. One on how to paint fake metallic letters and numbers, and the other a construction article; Cheap Thrill, 1/2A CL stunt airplane. MA pays on acceptance, which is good. The painting article was lost in the office for some three years.

Yes, both my Model Aviation articles are in the AMA Model Aviation archives. Jist search for Thomerson author and both will come up.
