June 2011 AMA's Model Aviation

June 2011 issue of AMA's Model Aviation

Don't miss this one. It's great as a subsidized magazine should be. Lots of information between the front and back covers.

Well Honestly I just got mine this morning,, was browsing through when I stop on the Scale Squadron Fly in Article,, I got excited for the first time in a long time while looking at the Mag,, then before ya know it,,it's over, the normal disappointment set in, A great Scale event and only 8 pics (1 a 1/3 page pic of GI-Joes in a jeep really???) But the previous article takes up about 7 pages of how to shoot production videos featuring an industry pro,, did they pay for all that product/logo placement???

It would be nice to sneak in more actual content in and around the advertising dressed in Article's clothing

RE: June 2011 AMA's Model Aviation

My issue has not arrived yet, but in reviewing my 90's RCM magazines I have no positive thoughts about the coming June issue of MA. I understand the change in mind set of the new decades of people, but would really enjoy some back to basic education in craftsmanship to building models in past years. It seems to be now only a marketing system to buy, crash, and buy. Rememberiing my time as a youth when fishing for trout, I did not hesitate to get fish goo on my hands when cleaning the fish. How come there seems to be such a problem in cleaning castor oil off of a model, and having your hands smell just great. If you want to play with electric trains, just go ahead, and leave us castor oil guys play in the oil without messing around putting train motors in our hobby models. Stop advertising electic train stuff in an aircraft magazine.

Usually I receive Model Aviation a day or two before I receive Flying Models. So I look at, and evaluate, MA without making a direct comparison. This time I received Flying Models first and so was totally unimpressed by the MA which arrived a couple of days later.

Mike's not the editor any more. Jay Smith is.

FWIW I think he will do a great job.

Just a cheerleader then...huh... as I don't recall him ever weighing in on any previous discussion about MA. Sorry, but just an observation.

OK, so as a retired (by emeritus defined) editor and a listed member of the department he does not get to pat himself and the rest of the department on the back. Sorry that I brought it up in the first place.

RE: June 2011 AMA's Model Aviation

Even when I was a paid member of the publication staff it was my honor to pat colleagues on the back for a job well done. Nobody can take my right to support a group of hard working people. You're allowed an opinion just as much as me. But this point is off topic.

This post seems to be questioning the ethical credibility of the publication's feature selections. As if in some way MA is getting kick-backs or some other boost for promotional work delivered. I can tell you with the utmost certainty that such a thing has never happened and never will. In fact we have to fight tooth-and-nail for popular subject material, and do it with a short list of talent willing to work for the highest aeromodeling author compensation media source.

Model Aviation is and always will be a reflection of AMA member activities. If you don't like the content, then change the hobby.

Hey swede5,

From their perspective and as the bottom feeders they consider us, we should deeply respect and welcome the accolades they bestow onto themselves... As you found out, the legacy of their importance is paramount to them...

emeritus...Hmmm...Sounds like something my wife went to see the gynecologist for.:D Just kidding but easy to see how one might be mistaken.

The "Hobby" is fine,,

The fact that I'm forced to pay for a publication that I don't want and couldn't stand on it's own otherwise is on the One and Only Problem I have with the AMA. It's bad enough I have to pay for insurance I'll never use. Just Email me or post online the Membership Newsletter parts and quit force-feeding me the advertising..

RE: June 2011 AMA's Model Aviation

Just to clear the waters just a bit ................... as I believe that there is some between the lines reading going on to original comments.

1. I happen to enjoy MA and appreciate the efforts that go into publishing it.
2. The pat on the back comment was made with a smile as it is deserved no matter if it is internal or external, nor who makes it.
3. Awareness of the contrary nature taken towards information and comments keeps the RCU moderators busy.
4. After touring AMA headquarters I am aware of the efforts and dedications that exist across all departments.

So here is a big grin for all that is rightly deserved ............... :D

Let's keep it on track and civilized for the benefit and enjoyment of all.

How is it that you're being forced fed advertising?

For instance there are banner ads all over this forum, but there's no one forcing me to read them.

I like your idea of having a media delivery choice.

You can compare apples to Oranges all day long, I gladly accept advertising to pay for the media I want to use

You're really going to make the argument that the magazine isn't forced upon the AMA members?
Please let me know where the opt-out check box is on that membership renewal form, I keep missing it

Actually I like MA...its the only RC model publication I take anymore... but never the less, I can appreciate views to separate the mag from the membership... as I usually side with choice... Why one wouldn't is beyond comprehension... Well... if your an old school American that is...

Notice, no smiley face thingy....I am dead serious about that.
