RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
ORIGINAL: extra-nut Silent, those vehicles are on I-40 going hiway speeds. [X(] Got it. Looked like they were parked on the other side of the trees!! Telephoto lens collapses depth of field!! When you mention AMA "officials" are you speaking of EC members or paid staff from Muncie? Or are you speaking about AVPs?? ALso, I may have missed this, but who actually put the sign up? |

I don't think the road is the problem. I went to your field early in the morning and took this picture. I think I found out what the problem really is...

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
OH MY!!! I haven't seen such a bad infestation since I was in Altus. I agree that for the safety of the members the airfield should be shut down. Maybe if Orkin or Terminex were a sponsor something could be done but as of now I think it is a total loss.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
ORIGINAL: extra-nut With the longer runway comes faster planes and planes with higher wingloads, significantly raising the chances of a mishap with the Interstate. It will only take one. With all the open land out there why would you pick a spot so close to the highway? Also, Why would you run the runway north/south,, isn't the prevailing when from the west? good luck |

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
My recommendation would be move the club or move the highway.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
ORIGINAL: extra-nut TimJ, thats a pavilion with restrooms. The city has been very generous with my tax dollars. ;) So airplanes are flying over people using that restroom? |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
My recommendation would be move the club or move the highway. Why not just revert the club back to the flying that was done when they had the 250' runway rather than the current trend of wanting to eliminate all flying anywhere at the club because of this? A 'No Fly Line' is just a concept not a physical wall, and it is a VERY simple matter to just place the No Fly Line exactly where it had always been, regardless of what (if any) pavement extend past it on the ground Sure the site is unsuited for a few types of craft, but the north end of the runway is STILL just fine for many other types of craft .... such as the craft that were using the previous 250' runway just fine: Put a couple cones on the runway at the 250' mark and carry on as they had been before the new runway |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
I think someone should tell all those highly intelligent RC airplanes that no matter WHAT goes wrong, no matter whose fault it is, no matter what the excuse, when they decide they want to head over to I-40 on their own volition, and head on with a vehicle going 70 miles an hour right toward them, then go through the windshield, blinding the driver with broken glass, balsa, metal and servos, and more than likely killing that person and who knows how many others as they lose control, that this is a safe field? I'm amazed that airplanes that lose bind, lose signal, lose that unknown command to follow the movement of those little sticks on ones controller always crash exactly where we want them to. I really need to get me one of those radios that can tell an airplane where to crash at.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
So it looks like you are approx.700' from a major Interstate? If my math is close that's about 1/8th mile from the south end of this runway. Knowing Texas and Oklahoma, most of the winds are out of the south and 75% of our takeoffs are in that direction which is the direction of I-40! That's INSANE!
ORIGINAL: GAP-RCU ORIGINAL: extra-nut That is our 250' runway with apron. The new 650'X50' is beside it. Edit (again): had it right the first time, after watching this video ([link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-EoUHizd7U]link[/link] flying over I-40 [X(]) |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
There's two paved fields here in San Diego with in 700-900' of Interstate 15.
Both I believe allow jets but have strick takeoff and turn right laws. The approach for landing is from the east and out over bare land. No offense but that field seems like it was put in a poor location. major highway on one side and a public lake with trails around it on the other? Maybe it was there first and was encroached upon. My old field recently had to close for road construction so being there first doenst mean much. |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
Uh, 'recommendation' is misspelled??
Have you made any calls? Please post what the club officers have to say about the closing. Random conjecture on the interweb could go on forever... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...n/confused.gif |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
this field is doomed for success

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
I'm interested in knowing the story, so why post this and make people guess what it is?

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
The first thing is, There is no citing who put it up. If it were city. county or sheriff . It looks like a disgruntled neighbor or busybody is screwing with you.
Go fly and see who comes out and wags their finger at you. Gene |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
Here in Texas we put out "NOTRESPASSING"signs on our pasturefences for a reason. We don't have to post our name, phone number, social security numbe,r or BVDsize on that sign stating who the hell we are. It's perfectly legal to shoot,/kill/mame/decapitate, anyone that crosses that boundary. The next thing you getintroduced to is the feeling of a scoped 30 06vacating that ignorant gap between your ears.Sure, you just march right out there and fly all you want to on a posted NOFLY site and see how that voided cavity between your ears feels!

Gone</p> |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
So let's recap ...
Items 1, 2 & 3. - The City researched and designed the new runway while taking I-40 into consideration and consulting with the AMA as well as the users of the field. Then, the City paid for, and built the runway as part of a "Capital Improvements Program." Item 4. - About 30 days after the runway was opened for use, someone on the City Counsel gets a bug up their ***** and closes the runway that the city probably just spent $300,000.00 on??!! Item 5 & 6. The City reverts back to Item 1 & 2? Is it just me, or does this whole thing sound stupid to others too? And please don't write, STFU. |

The sign needs to be fixed... Typo.
Oh, oh! Will the city go after this girl for flying her kite at the field? |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
Uhh..., you misspelled 'misspelled'.
Thanx for clearing this whole thing up, Bob. Someone's tax dollars at work... [X(] |
RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
seriously? [:@]

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
It appears IMO the question has nothing to do with the AMA but with the property land owner. In this case it appears to be the city. I was involved in a similar situation in upstate NY. I joined a club that flew on federal property adjacent to a public golf course. I made the mistake of flying over the golf course and the club received a verbal reprimand from the city council chair spokes person. I resigned from that club and joined another located in a rural area. Anytime government is involved problems are always there to present themselves.

They forgot to tell the biords

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?
I am still curious what "AMA officials" were/are involved.
