Not like it was last year IMO. Might be due to all the big box stores selling them. I haven't been at the shop since Nov. 15 due to a fractured foot ( lost mt footing on a ladder serving my heater) . I was talking with the guys at the shop yesterday and the small stuff ( under a $100) still are moving really well price point I guess. The high dollar stuff still sells but nothing like last year. With that said it's been a very slow year for us.

Bummer ... aren't we too old for ladders and (WORK) in general.
Ya really tough to compete with Amazon, HK Motion R/C and the like.

You bet. The toughest part is the "I told you to hire someone" I got from the wife. It's really hard to stop doing what you've done your whole life. Rough not being able to work on the shop on my projects. Live and learn I guess.

Ok got tired of it after a short while and fast forwarded most of it. But I see nothing done wrong in this video. Did I miss something?

Other than people walking under the quad and that he was flying right next to a hotel which COULD have gotten the guy flying charged with voyeurism, I didn't see him do anything wrong

Well he is flying fpv...........does he have a ham license ?

He is flying on hotel private property................did he have permission?

He is flying too close to the buildings and over the beach where people are walking.
I'm sure it was a smaller racing quad but it could still do some damage or injure someone.

Looks like a kid so he's either ignorant or just doesn't care.

Need to fly in B, C, D, or E at the surface airspace but you don't want to get an authorization or waiver?

You could just wait till the airport tower closes and fly under a Part 107 night waiver.

For more info on what is night, see my article on How to Fly Your Drone at Night-(Part 107 Waiver for Night Operations)

Most controlled airports close at around 9-11PM local time.

Not every airport is 24/7.

Check the chart supplement (formerly known as the airport facility directory) for the airport and see when the airport closes.

You should also see which type of airspace it turns into. MAKE SURE IT TURNS INTO CLASS G!

The time the tower will be in operation will be listed in Zulu time. Remember to convert to local time by looking at the UTC correction at the top.

You just fly at night under a night waiver in that location without an authorization once it turns into G.

Just check to make sure in the chart supplement as I think a few towered airports might revert to Class E at the surface which requires an authorization.

I have 14 night waiver approvals already. I'm noticing that night waivers are on average taking about 26 days for my clients. The fastest ever was 13 days. The FAA is sure speeding things up. If you need help with a night waiver, please contact me by replying to this email.

He was flying with the police, so he probably had permission and those people may have been participant's.

:cool: Sport , I think Hound Dog posted that as an alternative to flying under #336 for such things as night time operations that may not be allowed under our model aircraft exemption . In the strictest sense your right that since part 107 concerns commercial operations rather than hobby it could be that this is a discussion beyond the AMA forum , but as a side by side comparison I guess it's ok to examine the differences of what's allowed under each category of flight .

Just posted it as general knowledge. it's about Drones and the Rules that Pros have to fly under. If it doesn't interest any one they can just by pass it ...I won't be offended if anyone does.

Part 101 has no restriction on night flying. Unless the AMA has one. I don't recall it having one. OK AMA has restrictions in that the aircraft must have lights so the kid was violating that.

I actually have less issue with the guy flying the big drone than I do the one flying the little one. My reasoning is simple:
1) The big drone is still tied to someone, the little one isn't.
2) The guy is generally in the middle of the street, the little one isn't .
3) The big one is easy to see, the little one isn't.
4) The big one, other than a few short shots, is low to the ground, the little one is flitting all over the place.

In Finland ( laws are different there) and looks like they approached it professionally. It could have gone terribly wrong but I have to give it to them pretty cool.
