RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Yeah. That's the truth, I guess!
I may have found a new field to fly at.. RANS here in Hays has one and the RCU member, EddieFlyer, may be my key in. Man, I hope he can get me in to fly there. He's going to check with Mr. Schlitter who owns the company. They fly electric stuff there everyday, but I need to fly gas. I have nothing in the electric dept. Thanks all. Clint |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
ORIGINAL: Hossfly ORIGINAL: rw Guinn ORIGINAL: Extra_230-RCU I see. So, if I pay the $1.00, what does that get me? And then after I turn into an "adult" according to AMA, how much does the insurance cost and what does that get me? Anything different from the $1.00 insurance? How come there aren't any premiums? Thanks. Clint As a benefit of membership, a libility insurance policy is included with your membership. Actually, to get the magazine with the youth membership costs an additional $14. While the Insurance thing sounds good, have you ever heard of anyone under 21 being held responsible for civil court actions? Don't confuse the civil court with the criminal court system. The point is... WITH membership, you have the insurance to pay off if an accident occurs. Without the membership you may end up in debt for the rest of your life. You can NOT get rid of some court judgents with bankruptcy. (depends on the state and the judgement... but I would count on NOT beng able to get rid of it that way.) Don't confuse the issue by saying a minor may not have to pay... if the minor doesn't have to, then his parents WILL. (well... that again depends on state laws... as I think there's one or two that you can't sue a minor for being stupid and the parents don't have to pay.) |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Is California the only state where 18 year olds are legally adults? The only thing they can't do is drink. They can sign a contract and are held accountable in civil courts, as well as criminal courts. Their parents are not held responsible for their actions after they turn 18. Why, they even have the right to vote :)

RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
In Texas, a 17 year old can just SAY he wants to be on his own... and he is totally responsible for himself. His parents are no longer liable for anything he does and have no authority over him. (essentially he {or she..} is an adult.)

RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Now that I turned 18, I intend to register to vote for the upcoming election. I can also smoke now, but I think I'll stay away from that. I can't afford it and it's bad for my health. :)
Thanks all. Clint Tone of the Tones |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
How many times do they fly daily. What are your flying hours. Try to go when no one is there. I feel for ya man. I am 15 ,but they atleast listen to me in the club. THey want me for secretary, but I am up in Massachusetts for he summer. Good luck...
Hey I bought an RC Glove from someone in Kansas. My name is Dan Loris. Let me know if that was from you guys Dan :D |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
ORIGINAL: necorc ... AMA sez we aren't supposed to fly within 3 miles of an airport (I think) so it may be too close.... My field is actually ON the county airport, and was paved by the county. |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
AMA Safety Code, General, Rule 2:
I will not fly my model HIGHER THAN 400 ft within 3 miles of an airport without notifying the airport operator. You would be suprized how high 400 ft is... The plane is looking fairly small by the time yuo are that high. (it will be appx 600 ft from the pilot, at closest pass, when its 400 ft up) Go watch a Pattern Contest. The Masters pattern has the plane MAYBE 600 ft above ground at the top of the square loops. (its WAY up there) 60 deg angle up, appx 250 ft away from the pilot (straight line on ground to be under the plane) You can do that math for altitude can't you? Now... how often do you fly that high? |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
We don't have any "time" to go out. If the weather is nice, you just go. Every nice day, in the fall or winter, they're all out there. In the summer, they come out around 10:30 or 11:00.
Yes, Dan. We are the folk that sold you the RC Glove. Are you happy with it???? Let us know. Thanks. Clint |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Actually, Propbreaker and I are both right. Rule 2 is based on the FAA guideline.

RE: RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Well guys, it isn't going to work out for me to fly at RANS. Randy says he's worried about planes coming in and stuff. That's understandable. But I'm glad I asked, because I know.
Anyone from Plainville or Russell? How's your flying site? Any good rules and safe flyers there? Please advise. Thanks. Clint |
RE: RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
you might wanna look for a local landfill site -- Lots of those types of places have sections of the landfill that have been closed down and are no longer used for dumping, and there are always lanfills that are no longer used at all--those places have to settle for a long time before any development can be done on them, so they are usually good places to fly at.
That's what the local club has done here. |
RE: RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
hey guys
Extra if there are any crop dusters that have privet runways in the area check them out, they are usually nice about it. The club I belong to has rules but I live 30 miles away from the field so i just went and talked to a guy about 2 minutes away and he said it wasn't a problem. I only go out at about 5 because he is done spraying by then. good luck man |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Clint,
You have been given some sound advise by the members here. If the club is not an AMA chartered club there is no requirement for them to follow AMA rules. As everyone seems to agree it would be wise to adopt some more safety regulations. Being a somewhat crusty and somewhat old fart, I can tell you that it is doubtful that you will get the group that you fly with to make major changes in a short amount of time. If you set a good example and are a good politician gradual improvements over a long period of time are possible. For several years I flew at an "outlaw" field that sounds much like the field where you fly. If a new guy came to that field and tried to get some safety rules adopted, he would have been told to adapt to the environment or leave. As I look back to that time, hopefully a little wiser now, I have to say that the safe thing to do would be to leave. Hopefully you can find another place to fly where you feel more comfortable. Good luck, and keep us posted on what happens. Eric |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
Clint,
Scott here. Yeah, you know who I am. Just do what I do. Go in the late evening when no one is there! |
RE: What is a guy supposed to do??
I know this is an old thread , but the obvious may have been overlooked, are any of the guys that are the reason for the concern ,AMA members? sanctioned site or not , AMA membership and insurance require certian saftey precautions be taken ,whereever a member flies.
