RE: What dirrections should the AMA go?
ORIGINAL: EASYTIGER But MAN is failing, bigtime. As is RCM. And FLYrc is not doing so great, either. So the idea of retooling MA to be some sort of profit machine is pretty ludicrous. The main reason that some rags are failing is that they are so out of touch with the real R/C community. Trying to live of lame (false) product reviews and ads just won't cut it. The real useful content in these rags don't cover enough paper to sneeze into. Safe Flying! |
RE: What dirrections should the AMA go?
The one thing that I will never understand is why the ama needed to build the big mecca in Muncie. I liked it when the nats would travel around the country to give everyone a chance to attend when it was in their area. I was in Europe in the military when all of this took place and wasn't a member when the move took place. When I left , they were still in Reston virginia. as for model avaition I maybe read a few articles and the district news in the back and thats about it. I don't remember even seeing any of our district reps at any of the flyin's that I have been to. I think that if you are in this elected position that you should be out there in your areas talking to the clubs and hearing there concerns.

I have worked with AMA when they were in the DC red-light district, when in Reston, and in Muncie. Muncie is better. Regardless of "likes", either yours and/or mine, the logistics of a traveling NATs are both extremely expensive and demanding on local resources. For example, just you go and locate a site, obtain all the contracts for all the needed uses and for at least 3 weeks time, all at least ONE year in advance and submit to AMA. Oh, [:-] don't forget to have a 100 or so volunteers committed to do the labor chores. THEN submit the plan to AMA and see what happens. Might work!![8D] It's a lot easier, and much more economical to move the dedicated competitors TO THE MOUNTAIN than bring the mountain to those that "wanna' see it." BTDT. While those that are elected to a position should be visible, within reason, it's up to the voters to remind them of that job. Don't forget that this is a volunteer position and that person also has other human responsibilities. If you expect something, then provide something from yourself. You can always volunteer to get involved and volunteer some time. If you don't like your AMA Directors either get elected or campaign for others. I have been elected and have failed election more. I still keep trying. Now, as a nominee for AMA Executive Vice President, I solicit your support. |
RE: What dirrections should the AMA go?
Just to add to what was said above...no reason a site has to be used for 3 weeks for the NATS. There's no reason the IMAC nationals couldn't be done in one location, Control Line in another, etc...
Maybe combine flying closely related ones together like IMAC and pattern (where many contestants will fly more than one category). Many styles of flying have huge regional followings and not so much on a national level. Put gliders and free flight in areas where people actually do it. No one does it near here. Rotate them around. But there's no reason to take up a field for 3 weeks at a time. |
RE: What dirrections should the AMA go?
IN A PERFECT R/C WORLD.......
The National AMA's main concern should be to continue protecting the frequencies, retaining flying sites and properly promoting model aviation as a viable liesuretime activity/sport. Other than that, responsibilities should rest at the lowest possible level - namely the local clubs. This would mean that the safety code could be modified by the local clubs to fit local conditions (in some cases more restrictive, in some cases less so.) The AMA coud still offer its insurance, but clubs or individuals that choose to carry other insurance should not be penalized for doing so. MA should become a first-class publication geared towards publicizing all aspects of model aviation with an emphasis on assisting and promoting the local clubs and attracting new members. Yes, this means that the local clubs would have a LOT more to do, but maybe this way we could get away from the constant moaning about how restrictive the AMA is becoming and how it doesn't meet the needs of the day-to-day flier.. Here's your chance. papermache |
