RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
ORIGINAL: darowden I can go to the rifle range without buying insurance, why would I need insurance to fly my R/C machine. Maybe my perspective is different because where I fly there is nothing to hit but trees and dirt, but I don't see the need for it or the AMA. can you go out to a city park and shoot your rifle? |

RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
Ooh, look, NRA must be an insurance company too:
# $10,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at NO COST to you. The plan covers accidents at, or to and from, an NRA event; and accidents that occur during the use of firearms or hunting equipment while hunting. coverage increases to $25,000 for Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty. For more information, including special provisions and limitations, or to designate your beneficiary, click here. No Cost Accident Benefit # $1000 of ArmsCare coverage with your NRA membership. This plan covers insured firearms, air guns, bows and arrows against theft, accidental loss, and damage. For special provisions and limitations of the ArmsCare Plan click here. ArmsCare # New and Enhanced insurance coverages through the NRA Endorsed Insurance Programs. Enroll on-line for Life, Health and Accident and Individual Property and Liability insurance or call Toll free 1-877-NRA-3006 (1-877-672-3006.) New Commercial Property Liability Insurance Program for NRA Affiliated Clubs and Business Alliance Members, visit on-line or call Toll Free 1-877-487-5407. I mean, if they are offering it as a benefit to members that MUST make them an insurance company, right?? |
RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
It don't matter if it is AMA or NRA or anyone of the countless organizations out there. They are all special interest groups who's goal it is to assist to protect your interest in whatever it is you feel strongly about. The various benefits these countless organizations offer as mainly just meant to make its membership feel it is getting its money worth, even though its main purpose is to lobby the advancement of whatever cause it supports. So if you are strong on the right to bear arms, and that is a real issue for you, then you join NRA to make your little voice into one loud one. If Model Planes are a very important interest of yours, then you join AMA to make your little voice into one loud one. The side benefits that come along with these type memberships are there just to try and get you to come back every year to support a particular cause. So anyone who just views the AMA as insurance only, in my opinion has really missed the whole point of what your membership represents. I guess maybe the AMA can take some blame for not explaining there main purpose better to members, as it seems there are many who keep confusing AMA for an Insurance Company, and not as the Special Interest group that it is!

RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
Well I just joined online. It was easy and fast. I was a member about 15 or so years ago when I had my first .40 trainer from balsa usa. I hope to fly in a club soon.

RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
The insurance offered by the NRA at "no charge" is like a policy that covers you if you are killed by having a piano fall on you on Thursday between the hours of 11:59 PM and midnight. You wont have to pay much for that one either.
Any insurance granted through membership in any organization is not "free". You may not pay an extra fee but it is paid for by your dues. Some offer enhanced coverage for an additional fee but the basic plan is a blanket coverage that the organization purchases for its members. BM |

ORIGINAL: Hossfly The rifle range may well take everything you have and ever hope to have if you perform a careless action while on their property which severely damages someone's person. Horace, when I was XO for an Infantry Rifle Company in the '80s I ran the training ranges for unit TO&E Infantry weapons for the entire battalion. Everything from the M1911A1 to Ma Deuce. As an Infantryman in our nations military for 8 years I fired more rounds downrange in a safe manner than many Americans do in a lifetime. I understand mistakes can happen, but think I understand I thing or two about range safety and what liability insurance I may need or not need when handling firearms on a gov't, public or private range. Thank you for your expert legal advice, however please do not offended if I don't write it down for later use. |

While my statement was simply a general statement and not intended as pointing at anyone directly, just a note about a possible insurance situation, I am happy you bring to my specific attention there are those like you that understand mistakes can happen, yet have the attitude that such mistakes are always made by someone else. In my 13 years active duty in USAF, I ran across a number of Mr. Perfects that could make no mistakes. Unfortunately I never knew them long as most spread scrap metal around a large hole in the ground, in various parts of the world. There were some that made it into the Reserves and even into the airline community, however there they usually had someone else pointing out when Mr. "No-Mistakes" was just about to mar his record. [X(] Personally I was happy to have those pointers along the way. After all, my career objective was this long happy safe retirement. I must say though, those that rather "buy the farm" as it was called provided educational opportunities for those of us that took their mortal lesson as an instructional guide on what NOT to do. [>:] In a way, they helped me to get here, because as a youngster I was also invincible until a few others dug those holes before me. Started me thinking of the possibilities of "being so smart" just might actually be being SO dumb! Enjoy! |
RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
ORIGINAL: Taildrager "you can't join AMA as a new member over the phone". ....... If it were not for the fact I need it to fly at other club fields and the up comming Warbirds over Dane I would tell AMA to put their membership where the sun don't shine. |
RE: YOU CAN'T JOIN AMA
It makes me wounder if this new radio (Spec. 2.4 GH) is going to have an afect on AMA membership. Now people can realy fly R/C with a lot of conf. in their backyards or what-not with out the worry of killing themselves or others. I was a member of AMA for 20 years tell this year. I think its a great org. and will join again in the future. I just wanted to take a break for a wile. As for the joining by phone part. I see where it could be real easy for someone to call in and get AMA and then say later that they are not going to pay for AMA because that was not them on the phone. So why should AMA take a chance on a dead beat ? ;)
