....OK, folks...been out of this for awhile and am trying to program a JR8103 radio for an Ultra Stick 40 ARF with the full flap setup.

I don't know why they haven't clarified this in the manual yet. I went through the same thing. Here's an addendum that I got from Horizon Hobbies for my US 40.

Actually, the way it works is a bit questionable in my opinion because you don't have control over how low the take-off flaps go, however, I don't really use takeoff flaps anyways so I'm happy with having the crow work.

Addendum to 8103 Program for Ultra Stick

1. Go to function list
2. Highlight D/Flap T. and hit enter
3. Activate Pot 6
4. Return to function list
5. Put your 3 position flap switch in the bottom position
6. Select Program mix 5 or 6 (whichever is empty)
7. Set flap pot at full negative value
8. Select Offset and press “clear/store” (value should be –222)
9. Go back to function list
10. Select D/Flap T.
11. Set pot 6 to “inh”
12. Return the flap switch to the top position
13. Go to your flap mix and set the rate until your ailerons are level
14. Have fun flying your Ultra Stick!

But I haven't been able to even get that far.

Now, with all switches off but the flap mix switch in the middle the ailerons/rudder/elevator/throttle work as they should and I could probably fly the plane this way.....

BUT.... when I put the flap switch up, the flaps go down solid and the ailerons work fine.

With the flap switch down the flaps go up and stay.

Now, when I throw the program mix switch forward and the flap switch in the middle, the ailerons are coupled and follow the ailerons fine....one big aileron, yes...so far no too bad.

But when I throw the flap switch down with the mix switch forward the flaps go up, the left aileron goes down slightly and the flaps follow the ailerons in this strange, out-of-alignment position

Sigh...

I EM'd Horizon a couple of days ago about this but no reply yet. I read the manual in the bathroon at work and every thread I can get my hands on but I am missing something!

I think it has to do with the mixing, i.e., flap-to-aileron, aileron-to-flap, one I created on mix #6. Which mix, or too many, perhaps.

Sorry for the long post guys, I'm an old analog guy and this new digital goes right past me.

Can anyone offer a little step-by-step for this idiot that just wants to fly??

Actually, that sort of sounds almost right with what the switches are doing. I have a Word Document that will explain setting up the US40 with the 8103. I followed the instructions but just kept on interpreting some wording wrong. You don't have to use any of the program mixes other than the ones they talk about in the manual. First thing though, did you install the pushrods as shown on page 40. If you didn't, the programming won't work. So check that first. If you want the file let me know. It is to long to post here. Yes, the pushrods are positioned as in the manual, another post clued me in to that or they would have been installed wrong.

It is comforting to know that my present setup sounds like it is close to working.

If you would EM that text file, it would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest calling Horizon Hobbies tech support line. They can walk you through getting it setup correctly. Honestly, the directions in the addendum aren't really clear on some points and I'm sure you'd rather fly that mess with this for another week

Just make sure when you call HH support you get someone that knows what they're talking about

Dave, I wrote the post that you clipped in to start this thread. I was really struggling with getting mine set up. I went the Mix#5 route that you have pasted in. It has worked very well for me. If you want to go through it in detail I would be happy to discuss this with you on the phone or via email.

Yes, I have spent too much time on this and I want to get it in the air, but want to be sure I know what I'm doing. Have a 79" Spacewalker coming in a few days and I have to get this project off the bench!
