Default Too heavy to hang by tail???

I have a Pitts S1 w/59" wing 1.20 power about 10 to 11 lbs.

Can I hang it by the tail or is it too heavy?

Thanks Jimmy

That depends on what size line you use to hang it by. Foam, wood? If you are gonna hang it why not hang it from the ceiling as if in flight?

I live in an apt but I do have a 12' celing, so the wall is what I have.

Im thinking of a ladder hanger but Im wondering if it will damage
the stab.

Just go to a walmart or a lowes and buy the foam pipe insulation. They usually come in 4 foot sections. And cut a piece for each leading edge of the stab. That will protect and give some added support against the ladder hanger!

The tailfeathers on most aircraft are relatively fragile. I think I'd avoid doing that. If you could rig it so some of the load was spread to the main landing gear or the wings, that might work. But all of the weight of the airplane on the tailcone; I'd be afraid that something would eventually fatigue and break. With a 12 foot ceiling, can't you put it on the wall with the nose pointed towards the ceiling, and hang it by the main landing gear? That's something I've seen done with planes before, and they seem to do OK.

Besides which, if you hang it by the tail all the crankcase crap ends up in the bearings and tends to rot them pretty quickly. Much better to hang it by the prop, which is no diff than when it's flying anyway, and any gunge then drains to the engine backplate where it causes no damage. FWIW.
