<div id="post_message_17772106">I have been away from RC flying for quite a few years and have recently been flying an electric trainer 55". I am just about to complete an Extra 300s 60 size with a magnum .91 4 stroke motor. I remember years ago flying that we would run the antenna wire from the reciever through the fuse somewhere and tie it off to the vertical stabilizer or something like that. I do not seem to see this exposed antenna in any of the pics of planes people are flying these days??? What is the deal?? Do I need to expose it and afix it to the fuse somewhere?
Thanks for the advise!!</div>

Most people are flying with new receiver technology, that don't have these long antennas. If you want to use it, do it like you always have, and route through the fuse, and exist in the tail somewhere, and tape like you always have. You just don't see it in the pictures, because everyone is using newer technology.

If you don't like the extra wire trailing out behind you plane you can use a "bobbin" Hitec receivers usually supply one with their receivers.

Yep as stated, either using 2.4 systems or hiding the regular antenna inside the bird.
I know on my HET F-20, the build instructions had the rx back by the tail cone, antenna ran forward up into the nose cone, then looped back down the other side, all inside the plane.

Spiraling the wire tends to create a choke coil, reducing antenna performance GREATLY.
However the straw idea is not bad.
I use RC Car antenna tubes, and glue these to the outside bottom of the fuse of a 72mhz plane....
Then I run the antenna, fully extended through the tube.
You can't see the antenna, and you can easily remove it later without removing the tube.
