Default downthrust for pizazz

just finished my pizazz. it has a tt 46 pro w/ macs pipe.[not enough engine] when i took off w/ the elevator neutral. the plane went almost straight up.[not good] after alot of down trim i got it flying better but when i go to full throttle it climbs fast. i added a little downthrust to the engine but i`m not sure ifit made much difference. how much downthrust should i need ? the instructions didn`t even mention downthrust. the ins. said cg should be 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 inches. i balanced it at 3 3/4 to 4 inches. i like them a little tail heavy. it took 3 oz. of weight up front to balance. a saito 72 would be perfect for this plane i think. i`m afraid to try to fly it again until i hear from you guys on here. i know you will help me, you guys always do ! thanks alot ,

Default pizazz

thanks for the reply. i normally pride myself on putting these arfs together straight & true. i don`t know what`s wrong w/ this one. i guess i`ll put a saito 72 in it & see how it does?

Default pizzaz

It took 3 thick washers under the rear mounting lugs so I get it level under full throttle. Doc

Default pizazz

thanks alot doc.
did you put them under the engine itself or under the aluminum plates that the engine bolts to? i put one under the rear of the engine itself. it probably only added 2 or 3 degrees of downthrust. i was going to cut some tapered wedges to put under the plates that the engine bolts to.[ about 2 or 3 inches long] i think my protege' has about 7 degrees ? i was going to try 5 degrees. thanks again,

Ernst (from the LHS) makes great little tapered shims that go behind the engine mount. They come 3 to a set in varying degrees of angle. They are glass filled and light as a feather. Slick setup!

I put the washers under the engine. The Ernst thrust plates that I am familiar with are about 2 inches square and work well for radial mounts. You can probably cut them into strips to place under beam mounts. Doc
