Opinions please on the line of Yellow Aircraft ARF's, especially the big Sukhoi. I have a 2.4 gas engine looking for a home.

I have the 60size extra and the 60size suhkoi they are one of the best arfs i have ever seen. I can build planes but after having these you give yourself a break and enjoy the arfs coming from yellow.
BUY THEM dont research anymore they are outstanding

Judging from the Toledo show, they were the hit of the ARF collections. We took the wing off one of the ARFs and it was constructed very well, better than most arfs I'd seen. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one.

I had the 120 EXTRA 300 and it was a nice looking plane, went together very easy .
it was on the HEAVY side and it flew just "ok" IMO.
you wont find a nicer looking arf though.

Vince,
I have the 120 Sukhoi and it is absolutely gorgeous. The painted cowl is a thing to behold. I will be putting a Saito 182 Twin in it.
Good Luck,
Bill

Default YELLOW ARF'S

I HAVE TWO YELLOW AIRCRAFT EXTRA ARFS ONE BEING A 60 SIZE AND THE OTHER BEING A 120 SIZE EXTRA. RECENTLY I SPOKE WITH CHARLES AT YELLOW ABOUT POWERING MY 120 SIZE EXTRA WITH A GAS ENGINE. CHARLES TOLD ME THAT YELLOW AIRCRAFT ARFS ARE NOT BUILT FOR GAS ENGINES, AND HIS FAVORITE ENGINE IS A YS 140. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IF SATIO ENGINES ARE INSTALLED, THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO REENFORCE THE WING SADDLE AREA WITH LITE PLY. HE WAS REALLY AGAINST GAS ENGINES. HE STATED THAT THEY ARE TWO HEAVY FOR THE ARFS HE MAKES, BUT THAT WAS BEFORE MORRIS HOBBIES STARTED TO SELL AN MVVS 1.6 CU IN GAS ENGINE. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT. BY THE WAY I THINK THE YELLOW AIRCRAFT ARFS ARE GREAT.

I plan on doing some reinforcing on it to accept the gas engine. Charlie is a little conservative IMO (nothing against him) he thinks the G62 is too much engine for his P47 also, recommends a G38, with a couple of pounds of lead in the nose. <G>

Default you'll love the sukhoi

I've got the big yellow sukhoi and love it. A Saito 180 is a stump puller of an engine...your gasser should be fine (although I'm not well versed in gas engines). But the plane itself is beautiful.

I'll post some video of it shortly (with TME smoke system, etc). JeffC has the smaller sukhoi and I'm in the midst of building the 60-size Giles....more on those later.

For some flicks of the yellow planes in action, check out the following URL:

Vince,
I'm not sure yet of the measurements you asked about as I have not done any assembly yet, but the cowl is 12 3/4'' long and a little over 7'' across just inside the front lip. I know it will fit the 182 twin. Here are some pictures, hope this helps.

PLease see other post for two more pictures.

I've seen several posts regarding the Yellow (72") Sukhoi and Extra. Don't remember seeing a single one for the 72" CAP though. I've heard the CAP is a good flyer also. Just curious as to why the Sukhoi and Extra seem to be so much more popular?
