I've made up my mind that I'm getting the edge so what do you think about the moki 2.1? I wan't the best power to weight ratio since I fly at 4600'. Anyone else with this setup? WHat's your experience?
thanks.
thanks.

I had that combo for a while, very nice airplane, great engine.
Use strong high torque servos. I stripped a standard Futaba aileron servo and it jammed in full up position and I lost the plane, The engine servived.
I used nothing but Powermaster 5%, the instructions say up to 10% is OK and 15% only in cold weather. My prop was a mezlick 19x7 but I fly at sea level.
My other Moki 2.10 is in a Byron's Pitts and I just picked up a nib Moki 3.60 inline twin at a swap meet last saturday for that future big war bird project.

Kris,
Are you the one who (hate to bring this up) who "had" a Jerry's Big Boy and lost it on your first flight? If so, I'm the one who recomended 20/20 for your Saito 72! If you are one; I would really like to talk to you!

Yes, that would be me!!
stupid radio setup and engine choice I chose for that plane. It was built so dang light too. terrible transition and shaky idle with the OS 91 FX.
Radion glitch must of come from my receiver or getting hit on ch. 36. I don't know.
I plan on switching all of my crystals to some other ch.
Whats up?

Kris,
I have thought of you since then and was afraid you got out of the hobby! You looked like you just lost your best friend. I'm so gald to see your still in it!!!!!!!!
You have a great talent and can go a long way. We need another Michael S. I just wish I could fly as well as you can. I too have a cap 232 H9 with a moki 210 just waiting to be built. If you ever need a ride out to the field just let me know!!!

Working on this combo myself. I'm going to use a Cline regulator and place two 14 oz. fuel tanks back on the CG. The Moki drinks a lot of fuel (2.5 oz per min.), short flights on the stock 20 oz. tank. About have the Moki broke in with one gallon of FAI fuel. Moved the elev. srevos to the rear, one each side. Someone suggested 3.5 deg. right thrust, the firewall already has 2 deg, so I add 1.5 deg. more. I will trade your 4600' for my 7200' up here in Laramie. If you have any questions, I'll help if I can.
Good luck

The big moki is more than you need but will be a lot of fun.A friend of mine is using one in his H9 cap and is way more than he needs.I,m using a OS 160 in my edge and it is plenty for the plane for hovering and is pretty good on fuel.I own some saitos but they don,t put out the power like my big 2 cycles and they suck fuel so i use them in scale planes for the sound. The mokis are powerful but they like a lot of fuel so i would only use one in a plane that can use that much power. The 160 would be a good choice for this plane but thats just my view.

At this altitude 4800', a 160 just barely holds it vertical at full throttle, little vertical. A 180 does the job so-so, but a 210 can hover at half throttle and then pull out of it!

Hey thanks for all the input guys.
Sorry to hear you lost yours Carlos. Did you have standard servos for the elevator and rudder too. I plan on using hitec 605's all around. (two for elevator)
Wildthng, thanks for the input, but since I fly at 4600' I'd like to get the best power to weight ratio without too heavy an engine because 25% of our power is taken away up here.
Wy0_Flyer- 7200' is pretty high! WHere can I get a cline regulator and how much do they cost? How is your plane balancing?
THanks for all the coments Ben. Do I really fly that well? It must be all that time I spend on g2! I don't think I could ever be a Michael S. I can't afford the 30% planes with only my summer jobs. It would be nice to be sponsored but I need to get alot better first. Let me know how your cap turns out. I got to fly one back in PA. It flies really nice! THanks for the offer on running me out to the field but It'd most likely be kind of hard since I live in Greeley. Thanks anyway though.

ONe last thing. WHat set up did you guys use for your glow starters? I plan on just cutting the cowl for easier access to the plug. Did you mount sideways or inverted?
thanks.

Here is the web address for cline http://www.billsroom.com/pcfs/fuelsysdesc.htm You might check at "Things with Wings". As far as the balance, I'm still getting the elev. servos mounted, but it should come out about right. I side mounted my Moki with a BMC muffler.
Good Luck

I put a BME 50 gasser on mine. It is awesome. Flies great. So much power. I hoverered just above 1/4 throttle and will pull out at 1/2 throttle. I love it. Check it out on my site under MY HANGER.

I got the edge yesterday and everything looks pretty good.
Finnz, it looks like you did a pretty good job of strengthening the firewall. I think I'll keep in the firewall and just add the brackets and epoxy.
Wyo_Flyer- what have you done with your firewall? I decided that I'll go without the regulator to save a couple of ounces. Another club member had a moki 2.1 in his midwest extra and didn't bother with a regulator. I will use one though if I need to put the tank back on the cg to save noseweight. I'm going to use a hitec 645 (107 oz. of torque) for the elevator and rudder so it looks like I'll have to mount them in under the hatch.

I added some stock to the front side of the firewall, it should be find with the additional bracing. I used Hitec HS225BB servos, 1 for each elevator half. I placed them back in the tail, with the Moki it will need some weight in the tail.

HI Ben, how do you plan on bench running your moki. I don't know of any bench run engine mounts out there that will take a 2.1. I might just have to cut into a electrical wire spool to mount.
Wyo_Flyer- How far back can I put the tank without having a regulator?
thanks

Kris,
I plan to cut a slot out of a 2X6 and bolt it to a heavy table or go to Jim's (Things with Wings) and break it in there. At least, at Jims, the fuel is convenient!
I may weld-up a stand too; I haven't seen anything yet that suits my fancy.
Kris if you need help let me know!

Hey Ben, how did you find out. I got a muffler, prop, receiver, and spinner too. Say what prop are you using for your moki? I'm using a menz 20x10. WHat would you reccomend for drilling out the prop to fit. My prop reamer isn't big enough.
#20
Well, Jim got one on Friday and it was gone Sunday night, so I ask Bill who bought it. He said, " I couldn't believe this young kid bought it". Then I told him, " He can fly circles around you and me"! I'm also using a 20/10 prop that was given to me and was already reamed. I would ask Jim if you can borrow his. Don't forget to use the largest fuel tubing and brass tubing for your tank. That monster sucks-up 2 1/2 oz. a minute!!! I don't think you will need a Cline regulator Micheal S never used one either.

Ya I have large fuel tubing and large clunk and brass tubes for the moki. I might have to go with a cline regulator if I can't get the cg right on. I might end up putting the battery behind the hatch to get it to balance out. I'll try not to use the regulator if at all possible.
